It also depends on whether you see yourself selling it a later date.

I rarely see myself selling a watch when I first buy it. But I usually turn out to be wrong 😉 Therefore I never buy without box and papers.

Old stuff: box and papers command a premium. New stuff: no box and papers will lead to a discount. Cut off between old and new will be 1985 or so.
