How do you place your watch when not wearing it at night??

It varies from watch to watch. I have timing machine records for all of my watches. I check how the one I'm currently wearing is running - fast/slow and by how much, then I have a good idea what position to leave it in overnight to get it back closer to accurate.
Although there are theoretical reason why watches should run fast/slow in certain position, real life is often different.
There are no"standard" positions that work for every watch, so best thing is to have a watch timed properly.

Also varies by watch. My Speedmaster goes to my race car driving teddy bear for safekeeping at night 😉

My most expensive watch damage lesson happened when I took my Explorer II off over a ceramic floor before showering. If you take your watch off every night and put it back on every morning, be sure to do so over a soft surface (bed, carpet, rug). A shattered crystal, scratched dial/hands and complete service will leave you desperately wishing you’d only suffered surface scratches from tossing in bed...

Good advice

My watches spend pretty well equal times in all six positions at night. Because they are on my wrist. All same when I wear two watches to bed.

For the Hulk I recommend the Rolex Gamma-Ray Quantum watch box... the ultimate green machine. The Nuclear thermoelectric generator to power it takes up the spare room. Batteries were not an option.

On e serious note being a bit scratch phobic I tend to use simple travel cases. Either Omega service pouches or cheapies like the attached hard case photo (only £5). I stopped using watch winders a while back but I still have one for a couple of watches - I use it as a ‘box’ to store my current daily selection choice. My G-shock lives on the nightstand and gets knocked over a lot / coffee stained etc.

I don't ordinarily take my watch off at bedtime, but when I do it's because I'm getting some action. I lie on my back and so does the watch.

As mentioned in this thread.....you should experiment with the way different positions affect your watch's timekeeping ;0)

I don’t really think much about it. It lands as it lands in the night table unless I place on the watch box.

the watch really is designed to be in any position although they all may have slightly different effects on accuracy ratios once you put it back on during the day the normal wear will take care of it.

I got this "bracelet holder" from Amazon and stuck it to a table. Watch either goes here or in the winder when not being worn

I figure that the water resistance and shock protection makes it safe to leave on action, or no action.

I used to just leave it on a leather coaster until my cat learned the joy of pushing shiny things off of high surfaces.
He is also the main reason why I bothered to use the mounting putty.

Ah yes, cat's are assholes that way. We have two and one of them will consider anything gravity bound as a toy. It's quite funny until he zooms into something of value.
