How do we feel about the Tissot Navigator?

I believe these are very underrated models too. The T12 is a classic with the 872 at a fraction of the price of a 1970 Speedy. I know style is not to all tastes but it’s certainly distinctive! Here’s one of mine.

Agree completely. Super quality on these. What sort of price range can they be bought for?

No longer have this one unfortunately but it was a great watch. Given condition, it was at the more expensive end of the Navigators, but I've seen far worse commanding high prices. Most I see have very worn or damaged outer bezels, and there is no way of replacing them as you cannot get parts. When I say high prices, this is still an affordable watch compared to most vintage chronographs, and I like that about it. You won't find many in this condition, though.
Mine says hello : kind of love this one.

Congrats for all your nice watches. Tissot chronos from the 70s are growing on me.
Still some affordable available ones with lemania inside : should start searching more actively 😀

I just love that model and I’ll find it hard to resist buying one at some stage to go along with the T12.

Hi there,

Forgot to post my 45500 here and the fact that a 45501 join the pack is a good occasion to catch up.
I owe it to OF (&fratello articles) for looking for those in the first place 😀 Thanks

and what is geeky but nice : it does complete - with my V7734- the advert now 😀 (as shown by Willbur)

I’ve been checking those out again on Fratello myself. Very interesting and handsome watch.

Thanks @Ron_W : yes I find them interesting : nice 70s look with those chunky cases but still decent size (at least not too big for my average size wrist), seriously performant Lemania chrono, actually nice to wear and love using the chrono (to play of course).

I've been trying to know a little bit more about the racing story too (they were present at LeMans racings in the early 70s with Alpina drivers for instance) but could not find much... something to dig into 😉

There is little history on the Tissot site which may give you some angles to search some more

Thanks 😀 That's what I read in some forum but here I see it all. After not a lot of picture from that time but glad to see this 45501 as the watch that In 1974 equipped the Porsche driver Claude Ballot-Lena at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Did some extra searches but could not find any pictures of him actually with the watch...

👍 Your best chance is indeed searching for the drivers pictures from the Alpine renault teams, maybe also in the 12 hour races or endurance championships which were more frequent in a year.

Both watches are soooo nice 😀 congrats !
On my list both of them 😀 but you have to be quick when they came out (I mean at the right price 😀)

Here is a pic of my 4 tissot from the 70s : a diver PR516 complete the 3 chronos. But for sure the Lemania 873 and 1277 are worthy prizes 😀 as well as the Yachting (with the movement linked to the omega 1040 if I remember correctly) : they all would nicely complete the team

I've made also a lot of search and wrote to Tissot to know which model was used by Alpine in 1973, but no answer and no picture found... French topic below.

So according the following advertising :

And

We have more confidence that the following one was the one used by Alpine pilots.

Nice watch and Nice read 😀

You clearly get a point with those V7734 being released earlier and so more likely to have be worn (if this really happened) in 1973.
And so the Lemania would/could have been used by Claude Ballot-Lena in 1974 as the advert shows...
Anyway nothing sure 😀

It's surprising to see that Tissot is not answering back and not trying to build/use their own story.

Thanks a lot Willbur for this info and for your previous advice 😀

Another world timer Navigator T12, 44566, from around 1969

Sharpe EPSA case, original Gay Freres bracelet, and keeps time with astonishing accuracy ( within +/- 1s per day)
