I would remind the members that we have women members on the forum and that in the US at least, women find the use of , and veiled use of the word in question extremely offensive. Even if joking. Lets not have any more of it.
Even as this proves my point about being divided by a common language, it also serves to show how poorly considered my way of expressing it was. I apologize wholeheartedly.

Our Office Manager was called this by an upset telemarketer a couple of weeks ago. She is still pissed off.

... and funny how British & Aussie modes start at opposite ends of the formal / informal spectrum, yet we usually communicate pretty easily. I'm sure there's a book or three in all this waiting to be written
I can't quite articulate it in words, but when I saw this just now on the front page of the BBC.com website, it immediately made me think - I have absolutely no idea why - of how different the lives of Brits and Aussies usually are, and yet how easily those differences are sometimes overcome.
An eyewitness apparently said she found the incident "really funny", adding the animal did not seem to be bothering any of her fellow passengers. She said: "No-one batted an eyelid."

The absolute payoff for me was the quoted remarks of the Manchester (England) bus company official:
"Government guidance clearly states that this needn't be a surgical mask, and that passengers can make their own or wear something suitable, such as a scarf or bandana.
"While there is a small degree of interpretation that can be applied to this, we do not believe it extends to the use of snakeskin - especially when still attached to the snake."
OK, just a normal day for @STANDY or @JimInOz of course. 😉
