Hello everyone,

I was wearing my DJ today when I noticed a line that resembles a big scratch.. Initially I thought it was dirt but after I was trying to get it off I realized that it was not only in the center polished link but in the brushed links as well. The weird thing is thay I cannot feel the scratch at all with bear hands and I am really surprised as I am very careful with my watches and at least I would know if I have banged it somewhere..
Any idea how this could happen?

maybe it was the scratch fairy? I heard she has a taste for polished center links.

The switch witch. Normally the switch witch will trade out Halloween candy for a more healthy alternative. With the Covid pandemic the switch witch has less to do and looks to have moved on to watches. In your case you’ve got a scratch and somebody else had a scratch taken away.

Knowing that at least somebody else might have a scratch taken away it starts hurting a bit less!

I hear that if you just leave them in the box they stay perfect looking and you never have to worry about getting scratches again! 😁

Maybe sandpaper lining one of your trouser pockets? Sorry for the absurd answer, but it is no less absurd than your asking us how it could happen! Can’t tell you HOW it happened. But I can tell you WHY it happened! You wore it!

There will be more to come. It's a bracelet, it's ok to get it re-finished or polished every year or two or three, or buy another. Thankfully not one of those vintage bracelets that cost a small fortune. One of the reasons I wear most of my watches, not all, on a leather or nylon strap.

I think it was probably caused by your bear hands ... the claws in particular. 😉

It doesn't take much to create a scrape like that, and you will not have noticed when it happened. It is easily fixed either with polishing or replacing links if you need to do something about it now. Something else you can do, to reduce its visual impact is wash your watch so that dirt/grease in the scratch is not catching the light. It's really not a big deal, and now that the first one has happened, enjoy the freedom it offers in wearing your watch less carefully. It can be rectified at the next service.

This happened to me too, I found the culprit to be the handkerchief in my pocket, which now is serving a life sentence in the back of my drawers.😗

The first one is always the toughest. After that, it's just par for the course 😉

OMG.....! How awful for you. It really does put in to perspective a lot of the things going on in the world right now. Just kidding. Don't worry as you will get use to it. Wear in good health!

Seeing this made me remember seeing this on reddit a while back:

It’s funny of course but the difference for those “adventurers” back in the day is that their Rolex was a tool watch and although expensive, wasn’t ridiculous. A stainless steel Explorer back in the early ‘70s was probably similarly priced to a new Hamilton in 2020 prices. I doubt anybody who (over)paid for a new Pepsi GMT is going to rock climb with it.
