My Travel clocks have always been my phones. Prior, they were the hotel wake up calls. The Dink descends into self parody.

They have indeed - but there are a couple of Instagram profiles that do a good job of parodying them too ...

Don't get it, in a period like we are now and even we were not in COVID situation.

They really think the market is stupid enough...

I've driven one years ago (friend of mine had it) - if you take everything out of picture - it drives like any other Fiat. But it is ugly AF.
P.S. There is special place in hell for people modifying this car😁😁😁.

Doesn’t know shit from Shinola, or is that Hodinkee?
No, Shinola deserves a little lashing too...but they are a little more downstream hipster.

While I find the clock unattractive and poor value given the multitude of options out there for a similar price, that's just my subjective opinion.

I wonder how many people criticising Hodinkee and this clock actually know wealthy people (minimum several million net worth and high liquidity)? This isn't about bragging or showing off the social circles you mix with. This is more a question about being familiar with how some/many "rich" people think.

I'll throw out a few examples of clients that my wife has had:

1. After fitting a brand new, bespoke kitchen the client thought it "looked too new" so she asked if the carpenters could "bash it up a bit and make it look worn". They just looked at her with stunned faces. She was willing to pay them more to make it look...less new.

2. A client ordered several bespoke lights from Italy costing almost £1k each. After they arrived they found a chandelier they liked more costing over £10k. Instead of returning the lights they decided to fit them in one of their rental properties. Because, why not?

3. My wife gave a clear specification on rug sizes that would suit a room. While on holiday the client purchased a €10k carpet that was larger than the recommended specifications. When they arrived home and laid it out, it was too large and didn't suit the space. They put it in another one of their rental properties and bought something else.

Yes, a $6k clock may seem ridiculous to some but it's a fleeting thought to some others (with money to spare).

I think there's an important difference between those examples and the Hodinkee clock. In the case of the Hodinkee clock, as has been extensively highlighted above, the quality is poor at the price point. In all the examples above, the client has received value in terms of the product they purchased. That clock does not represent value. It is poorly made and derivative garbage. I know several people whom I can imagine doing 1, 2 or 3 (or all of them), but I can't imagine them doing anything with that clock other than laughing at it. People who buy that clock are suffering merely from FOMO.

I know, right, who actually travels with an alarm clock?

And you can buy the whole Shinola range for $6k

I completely understand the ridicule but I don't entirely understand the outrage.

Many people get wealthy specializing in very specific things and don't entirely have well-rounded intelligence. I've met plenty of these people who are infinitely more wealthy than I am, albeit I am relatively young, and they really are lacking in certain areas. If you've got more cash than sense to buy one of these, then good for them. I'm sure plenty of people bought this as a speculation purchase and will try to make a profit.

That's probably the nicest way I can put it. Give me a few glasses of wine and some buddies and my thoughts probably wouldn't come out like this. 😉

I find it fascinating that an overpriced clock from an over-hyped company can continue to generate such an abundance of comments --- 15 pages worth. I am glad that OF members are so passionate about such a first world problem. 🤦 😉

Thanks and be safe. I need to now go and join a wait-list for a very overpriced vintage watch that was Hodinkee advertised today and sold out in about 2 hours.:whipped:

It's a watch forum, a place to talk about watches and watch related stuff. I am sure that 99.9% of members place this poor excuse for a travel clock stuff very near the bottom of the pile of things that they really care about.
However, as it's a watch forum its seems natural that, if people are going to comment on a watch related topic, this is the place to do it.

This is great! Only my second post on this forum, though I'd been on WUS for years. You guys get to swear?!? Yes! You hate Hoodwinkee too? Yes! Oh, and you prefer Omega to Rolex?! Damn.
I just went through all fifteen pages mostly avoiding work and the news this morning. Great entertainment!
