Hi A friend of mine, who is a well-known watchmaker in his late 80s, and I have watch and coffee chats on Sunday afternoons. This past weekend he pulled this amazing Heuer out of his pocket, and is trying to get some pricing info on it prior to offering it for sale. What we do know is that it appears to be a ref. 2446C, probably from the late 60s or early 70s, and contains an immaculate and quite uncommon Valjoux 724, which is the GMT variant of the cal 72. He has not serviced it, as he is the service tech for this region a very well known Swiss brand, and there is a year+ plus waiting list to enlist his services. I would be able to get it serviced fairly quickly, but I am sure that anyone who has the wherewithal and appreciation of this gem already has their own service person (s). Anyhow, any help determining what we should be asking for this watch? Thanx
ps. I did give it a decent wind and checked the chrono functions. It performed flawlessly, with the buttery soft clicks that the Valjoux 72 is known for. The GMT hand is geared for 24H, and is always in sync with the hour hand.
There have been several successful sales of these in recent years. I would say anywhere between 7-10k USD; possibly more, but not likely less.
Have a look here: https://www.heuerpriceguide.com/autavia-1960s-price-guide That's a 2nd execution but the hour & minute hands are 1st exec. On the smallish photos provided it looks to be in good shape, so @Watch my Whisky's estimate is good.
This is very helpful, thanx. I think James took these with his phone. If needed I can bring a real camera and lens and get some serious macro images.
I think the price they have at Autavia 1960s Price Guide (heuerpriceguide.com) $5k to $7K is realistic. I think sometimes people forget selling price and listing it on ebay hoping for it to sell. It is an amazing watch, best of luck.
