Help with identifying how bad redial is

Hey,

I'm not a collector but I have found a beautiful 1963 black dial omega seamaster deville. It has been redialled - however I'm more concerned about the hands and the batons. I wanted to ask someone who really knows how bad it might be before I consider spending money on it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

What do you want to know about the hands and markers? I guess you realize that the watch originally had lume in the hands and at the ends of the markers, but it has all been removed.

I actually wasn't aware of lume being part of the hands. That's the kind of information I was looking for. So aside from the redial, the hands and batons have also entirely been replaced?

No, I think that the lume was removed. I believe that the long open areas in the hands were originally filled with lume and now they are empty and the black dial color is showing through. At least that's the way it looks in those photos. Similarly, I believe that there were dots of lume in the small flat areas at the outer ends of the dial markers.

What would be your general take on the redial? Done to a professional standard or are there signs of shoddy workmanship? Would I be right in guessing most people wouldn't spend more than $500 on this watch? Thanks for the info btw.

It's not going to fool someone who knows Omega watches, but it's not shoddy IMO. I have seen people paying a bit more than $500 for these; like you they're not collectors and want a Mad Men watch. A collector wouldn't touch it, and most people on the forum are collectors. However, most people in the world aren't collectors.

Movement pictures would help us help you......might have a quartz thingy(technical term) in there or something else or a nice Omega Movement.

Looks like a genuine 562 - what would be your thoughts with a genuine movement?

Lots of rotor wear, but genuine.....have your watchmaker address that at service....before you wear it too much.

Looking to fill a gap in my knowledge if you would be so kind. If it was lumed originally wouldn't it have the -'s and 'T' etc. around the 'Swiss Made' text at bottom? or is that limited to only tritium?
i.e. this:

The "T" refers to tritium, so it depends on the era. This dial is repainted anyway, so all bets are off.

I am not sure that these hands had lume in them. The devilles had ones with black centres with no lume (and no TT on the dial) and others that had black centres with a lume window near the tip with a TT dial. I do like the long pointy second hand, but I don't know if its original or not.

The redial looks pretty good. The question is if you like it or not. No one on this forum is going to think its a good way to spend money, but if this watch gives you pleasure and ticks the right boxes for you, that is all that matters. For what its worth, I think its a cool looking watch.
