HELP Verifying Dial Omega Seamaster 2846-48

Hi All,

As a first time buyer, I'm looking for a second opinion on a potential purchase of a Vintage Omega Seamaster. I've attached a number of pictures for reference. Specifically, I'm looking for your opinion on the dial and it's authenticity. Here's what I know about the watch:

1. Omega Seamaster Automatic
2. Ref: 2846-48
3. Case is 18k Gold
4. I've sent the owner a number of questions and am waiting to hear back

The dial condition looks fairly consistent with the condition of the case. Based on my limited experience, the script 'Seamaster' looks consistent with others that I've seen. There appears to be text below 6 o'clock that I assume is 'Swiss Made' which is consistent with the style.

I'm curious to get your opinions on this one. Is it an original dial?

Thanks in advance!
Chris

That is actually just a 2846, the 48 bit is a red herring since the same case is used for the 2848 which is a sub second model so many are double marked 2846/2848. It all looks pretty original to me. I too have a solid gold 2846 but mine is an earlier dial design with the rounder S design.

I’m very new here so please take what I say with many grains of salt, but I was expecting to see the experts chime in that this was a redial. Specifically it seemed to me like some of the markers on the minutes track were askew/misaligned (especially comparing the markers near 3 to those at 9). The dots at the non-ordinal hour markers as opposed to ticks also seemed strange. Anyone else think this was fishy or am I off the mark?

If that's a re-dial, Rembrandt is alive and and well.

I have a Lemania that has poor registration between the applied markers and the minutes track. I've found others like mine, though not many because Lemania didn't sell a lot their own brand.

But it is undoubteldy original.

Misregistration can be an indicator but you have to see a few thousand more dials to know when that is original or a dial refinish.

Dial seems a bit to bright for me, but that could be caused by a cleaning/new lacquer or photographic overexposure.

The printing looks OK. However, with low res pictures, you really can’t tell much.

I think the ticks are OK. I do agree with you though about the dots - but I think that was a mis-step by the designers rather than a re-dial. I think the OP is on to a good thing here, but I would actually have held out for sharper pictures of the case. It's going to be really nice to see Chris's own photos when it arrives!

Watch came in yesterday… Man, it’s awesome. First Seamaster, and I’m really enjoying it. See attached for photos. Hopefully a little better quality than the ones in the opening post. Overall in pretty good shape. Originally I was thinking I’d be switching to a dark brown band but I’m actually becoming a fan of the black. Watch is a little fast though (about +20 seconds/24hrs.) I’ll likely try and find someone to service it to get better accuracy. Overall happy with the purchase.

Thanks again to all for the input.
