Help please with this ladies Seamaster vintage watch

Hello, I have just joined this amazing forum, as I am after my very first ( big smile) Omega watch. Budget only low, up to £300 and I have found this watch, vintage Seamaster, automatic, but after reading lots of your informative posts, I now wonder if the watch is correct - shouldn't it have the 2 x T's as the hands and number markers, appear to have the luminous substance on them. Also, the SWISS MADE appears very large. The picture isn't the best and I cannot get another before bidding ends, any help would be most appreciated. If the watch is indeed wrong, I have seen the Constellation one pictured, I have been dithering between both of these. I am not adverse to a small man's version of either, but the prices are higher.

Many thanks from a complete newbie 😀

That one should have Ts on the dial for that variant of 565.026, there are some that don’t but they’re entirely non-luminous both dial and hands

Thank you very much, I had only read about the T's this morning, which is why I remembered. Does it mean the face is a different face or that the watch may be a complete fake?

Thank you, so as it is a watch for me and not for selling, do you think it is worth buying if I can get it for under £300?

Hello all, sorry this is a bit the wrong way round and I should have introduced myself properly. I only joined your forum today, after so much information came up in my recent searches. I am an artist and I have a love of handcrafted items, even precision mechanical items, just anything made with care and attention to detail really. I love vintage items of all kinds, so when I decided on an Omega watch, it was for the amazing history that comes with them. I don't mind the scratches, dents and signs of use and see beyond that. Having read so many of your posts on here, I really admire the way you share information and help each other and I am very grateful for the help I received today. I do try and do as much research myself as I can, before asking for any help. I am completely un- feminist ( probably my age 😀 ) so enjoy seeing a bit of banter. I don't expect I will buy many Omega watches in my lifetime, but the search for 'your' one is such a great feeling. I am hugely envious of some of the ones you own, but as I know the amount of enjoyment you get from them, then that is perfectly ok and I shall get the same pleasure from owning perhaps just one, old one 😀 Thank you dsio for your patience today, in answering my questions. Jane

Welcome Jane. I think you will be happier if you wait for a watch with an original dial that retains its history.

The search experience is as important as the watch! It makes it better once you finally get the one. Good luck in your hunt, don't forget to ask if there's any question. Lots of knowledge on this forum.

You may not want to limit yourself to searching for "ladies" watches as vintage men's watches were much smaller at one time.

Good idea, I shall investigate more vintage mens watches as well. The hunt continues 😀

Good morning all, I have found a watch I like, but I notice the same problem with lume on the hands and no T and the bigger problem (?) It has been described as an Automatic Seamaster and it does have the seamaster back case, but no Seamaster is written on the dial. Is this one re-finished as well ? It dates from 1958 and is a 30mm case ( I think someone on this forum did say that the T's don't appear on watches of certain years ) but the only threads I could find about the Seamaster wording not appearing, seemed to always indicate that the dial had been re- finished or that the movements were from a different watch. Sorry for the long post, this is a minefield for a novice. Many thanks for any help you may be able to offer me on this. Jane

That one looks to have been redialled (ie repainted) but in fact no Omega before around 1963 should show the T marks since radium was the lume in use prior to that (well prior to 1962, there was a short unmarked tritium period).

Thank you Padders. At least I can stop worrying about the T's before that date, that is really helpful. It seems that so many of these old watches have been painted or something, to make them look newer I expect.

I forgot to ask, it is still the actual workings of a Seamaster watch though?

Sorry to be a nuisance to you all, but I have found this pink dial seamaster, it is a 14704 - 2 with a Cal 591. So it appears to come from the International collection, 1958 to 1961. Did Omega actually produce a pink dial like this, or is it one of the colour changes that sometimes happens over the years? I cannot find one like it. The owner says he doesn't think it has been repainted.

That one might have an original dial but has other serious problems. It looks to have bad corrosion on the lugs, though it might just be filthy and the rehaut round the dial is missing which can mean either it has an aftermarket crystal or the dial isnt right for the case. I'd steer well clear of that one.
