Hello and welcome dear Sue,
sorry for your loss, this is a lovely heirloom. Not military at all, but a very nice dial in the art deco style of the 1930s, so it’s consistent with the serial number information you looked up.
A good professional watchmaker should be able to service it and make it fully functional, however you’d have to be careful as it’s not shock protected, and not water resistant either.
As a woman who likes vintage watches I’ve never had a problem wearing mine so long as you’re careful not to hit them, not to wear them in rainy weather, and must be very careful not to drop it inadvertently.
If you say where you are people might have recommendations for good watchmakers. It’s very important to avoid your local jeweler or unknown watchmakers- as you want to make sure they do not try to « refresh » your watch, only service the movement inside.
As for the pictures of the inside markings on the case, I suggest you place a mug near your watch, and prop up your phone flat on the mug. You will get a clear picture of those fine engravings and people will be able to tell you more.
Best regards
