Help Identifying Grandfather’s Watch Please

Hello everyone,
Just joined this forum as I have always been interested in vintage omega watches (would love to get my hands on a pie pan constellation some day).

I recently found one of my grandfather’s watches and have been going crazy as I cannot find anything online about it.

Funny enough, the only information I have about it came from ChatGPT, so here’s all I know:
  • Caliber 283
  • Dating early 1950s
  • ref. 2749-1 SC
  • Serial Number 13814161

Also Ive attached some images.

If anyone can please give me any information about this watch I’d greatly appreciate it as I’d like to get to know more about my grandfather.

Thanks in advance!

The information from ChatGPT is correct, probably 1953-54 to be more specific. The case is gold-plated/filled, as you probably understand. The cal 283 movement is a shock-protected center-second variant of the 30mm movement family. Your specific watch has a textured dial. There is a long thread on similar watches using movements from this family:

What else did you want to know?

Here is all the information from Omega:

It would be a good idea to get rid of that fix-o-flex bracelet. The spring loaded “one size fits all” attachment will gouge out the lugs eventually. Get a nice leather strap for it.

Hope this helps,

I agree those stretchy old man bracelets look awful and they damage the watch lugs, It will look much better on a nice leather strap

Thank you for sharing! It’s pretty similar, just never found the dial I have online.

I 100% agree I plan on getting it a leather strap when I restore it (it doesn't run), he had another quartz De Ville one that I am going to keep on the fixo flex.

Ideally I’d love to get it restored like the Wrist Watch Revival youtube vids etc. And put it on a leather strap. I live in Egypt so I don’t know of any omega vintage watchmakers that can help me with this. I am looking tho.

Thanks again!

In those days Omega had several dial variants for each case ref. The Wrist Watch Revival channel shows what a full service for a watch. You could start another thread looking for a recommendations for a watchmaker in Egypt. Otherwise, you could send the watch to a someone in Europe. I live in the US and send certain watches to Thailand for a service.
