Hello to all, hope all of you are safe and no issues with COVID
Just bought this case and dial from Breitling but due that the case back is not the corresponding one I don't know the case reference of this particular watch, what are your thoughts ?
about the dial I think it's original? opinions please.
thanks to all OF

I'm not sure how much of the watch is original, or even how much of it goes together. It looks like a random assemblage of parts. Do you think that the dial and outer ring are part of the same watch? Why would it have two tachy scales? I tend to think that the white dial (which may be re-painted), belongs to a different case.

I agree that the dial does not belong to the case as no sense to have 2 tachy scales, I will get this set tomorrow, I hope that dial and case are original (case is not and I knew it). Why you think dial is repainted ? any obvious sign ?
thanks Dan

The dial looks pretty good and it may be original. I just felt that the 45-minute totalizer sub-dial looked different from the others, with the tick marks stopping short of the edge, and with a flat-top 4 and sans-serif 1. I realize this is being very picky, and it may be fine.

I guess once I see the back side of the dial I can see if it’s original or not, right ?
About the case?

I don't know if the back of the dial will be much help, since I don't think that the back is usually modified when a dial is repainted. On a flat dial, sometimes a notch is added to help with orientation, but I don't think that would be necessary in this case either.

Sorry, I don't recognize the case at first glance. How do you know that it is Breitling? It reminds me of a Certina case.

Well the seller says that is a breitling case, that’s all I know. Do you have any pics of the Certina case that looks alike ? Thanks Dan

That's the one I was thinking about, although the pushers are obviously different on that one. Who knows? There might be other companies that used similar cases. It will be a fun little project to figure it out. 😀

Here some pics of Breitling case that looks like the one I got. May be tachy is from another watch. Never started a project and it seems that needs lots of research or knowledge

Your case looks quite similar to the Certina case, but not to those other Breitling cases. Look more closely at the shapes.

Perhaps the case-back holds a clue. It appears to fit the case. If they fit, then it's likely that they are a pair. That's the simplest explanation. What is written inside and outside the case-back? Open your mind. There is really no reason to think that the case is a Breitling, just because the seller said so.

No - I don’t see them as entirely necessary for vintage watches
