Hey,

is the mid size pre-Bond Seamaster (ref. 368.1042) 36 or 38 mm in reality? I've read that it's "38mm w/o crown and official size 36 × 41".

So which one is it? And what about the lug to lug?

Thanks for helping!

I think the 36mm it's measure without the guard of the crown.

There are 2 sizes of Pre Bond, 36mm and circa 40mm without crown. The so called mid size is 36mm and a bit too small IMO.

Yes that's right, 38mm including crown. I like the size - so much I have 3 of them!

The problem with mid size divers watches is that the bezel robs dial real estate. It’s even worse on the mid size SMP ie Post Bond. That has a dial like a tiny porthole.

That's interesting. I've genuinely never considered this before but thinking about it, I must perceive the bezel on most dive watches as an extension of the dial - part of the dial if you like. I wonder if that's common..

Just throwing this out for the next guy in my position:
I just bought a midsize 36mm, and (thankfully) had to return it straight away. It was WAY too small for me. I don't love the new 'big watch' look, but the 36mm was seriously TINY.
Really really pleased I was able to pick up a 40mm instead (pictured). I feel like people would consider this watch on the 'smaller' side today. But, it is the perfect fit for me.
Again, no judgment on what size people like, just puttig out this opinion for someone who was researching like I was.
