I've come into a little spare cash not a lot but it's mine, not the wife's or for the house, all mine Anyway I've had yearning for a omega pie pan but trying to find a un molested one at the price is awkward. So my equal love of longines has led me to this, I would be gutted if I make another redial/refurbished error. So if the experts can pass comments on this I would be enormously grateful.
Dial looks fine, but the lugs look polished. Reference 9044 should have a clearly defined facet on the lugs (see below). Also, the price of $1400 is very high. Source: https://omegaforums.net/threads/longines-conquest-ref-9044.95410/#post-1244799
Longines are great and elegant watches but the price quoted is high. Unless you’re dead set on buying this particular model, you should consider buying a Longines Conquest Heritage - you can probably find a new one for that price and nearly new ones for around £600.
Thanks I am still on the hunt, not fixed on that watch. I have a heratige classic sector dial but wanted to add a real vintage to my collection
These two have caught my eye as well especially the last one. Ref 6379 and this one a ref 6446 my concern with this is the applied longines symbol looks crocked Both are around £750
I do not like the look of the ref. 6379 dial (i.e. it might be a redial). Here is another one with close serial number (both start 8'640'xxx) and close case-back numbers (6379-2, 299 and 6379-2, 659). Sources: https://www.kdclocks.co.uk/products/1952-longines-automatic-wristwatch and https://www.birthyearwatches.com/product/1952-longines-automatic/ The dial on the ref. 6446 is neat, but the crown is both not original and looks crooked. Below is a correct crown for comparison. Source: https://www.ebay.com/itm/175620829156
It’s worth, in my experience, noting two factors regarding vintage Longines. First, and on a positive note, Longines dials generally seem to survive in good condition and look attractive, as do the cases. Second, and this is a negative, replacement parts can be difficult to source as compared to some Omega movement parts, which are easier to find.
I don't know if the OP has seen it but there was a similar thread here recently https://omegaforums.net/threads/getting-started-with-vintage-longines.156567/ As I wrote on that thread I recently picked up a 9044 which is similar to the one posted by the OP. I really like the overall design; particularly the shape of the hour markers at 12,6 & 9, the playful swirl of the dial brushing and the case shape.
Beautiful watch. My initial worry was the dial was a redial as I thought the text was a little heavy but maybe not. Very interesting link much appreciated Cheers Phil
