Help me pick the right one

So; after my 60th Anniversary Speedmaster and my Apollo 11 50th Anniversary edition I started to think about a Vintage Speedmaster.

But as I’m not an expert regarding right crown, dial, bracelet and Bezel I thought I first ask the community for advice 😀.

So happy for any inputs regarding the three watches. I want to avoid to pick one which is not ‘pure’. Thx for all the help already 😉.

I say get one with an exhibition caseback and hesalite top. The 1863/863 looks too good to not be seen. Forget the "pureness" of the solid caseback. Plus, the older ones were thinner than the flight-certified versions.

That 105.012-65 watch looks great to me.

I like all Speedy Pro variations but for the vintage ones I think it is a plus if it has:
- the flat link bracelet
- DON bezel
- the applied Omega logo on the dial
- pre-moon caseback
- the 321 movement

My 145.022-68 Transitional watch has the first 4 things but has the 861 movement inside it.

To me, there was a significant turning point in the history of the Speedy Pros when they transitioned to the 1171 bracelet, DNN bezel, painted Omega logo on the dial, and "moon watch" text on the caseback.
Nothing wrong with the later versions, but the older ones do look quite a bit different.

Thx for the input. To be honest; if it is a 861 or 321 is not that important for me. I want to avoid buying a watch which is not as it was when it was created. So my understanding isxon the 322 you think everything fits (bezel, dial, crowns etc). How does it look with the two 861s; is it the right bracelet etc?

What confuses me a bit with the 321 version is that on the dial I see “T Swiss Made” and not “T Swiss Made T”

Of the three watches, #2 appeals to me the most... I like the dial, case, and everything appears correct. #1 would be my second choice.
#3, has a few issues and considering you stated that you "want to avoid buying a watch which is not as it was when it was created."
The reference 105.012-65, has the incorrect chronograph hand which should be tear drop, the dial has already been questioned, it appears to be a close T, but missing the "T" on the right side. The crown looks correct, but would like a closer image, it should be a narrow flat feet.

Great, thx for that input. This pretty much excludes number 3 for me. I really want to habe a cintage watch which is the same as when it was created (of course there will be some scratches etc). But the bracelet in 1 and 2 are the right ones for the soecific reference?

Can’t say anything about the authenticity of either, but #1 appears to have “creep” of the hour counter. Can be fixed with a service, but is something to consider.

Maybe you should stop obsessing about moon watches and try something else?

Or get the German-specific Speedmaster.

The bracelet in #1 is correct, a 1171/633 which is consistent with a watch manufactured between 1981-1988
The bracelet in #2 is correct, a 1479/812 which is consistent with a watch made between 1988-1996
