I wonder if the seller could send you some very detailed pics of the SM and you can share it here for feedback. It's not the same as seeing it live but we might talk you out of going to see it depending on the value and how it presents 😉. The OF approval or disapproval obviously doesn't make it a mandatory purchase or a mandatory pass but it might bolster your confidence/hunches with dozens of eyeballs on it and would also give you some breathing room before you travel to see the watch (even if you are nearby).

Buy something extravagant now, even if you can't afford it; the economy needs your help...

Yes. Since being stuck at home I can no longer order anything to arrive at my workplace so my wife doesn’t find out about it.

Good to hear I’m not the only one

Yes I will definitely do this if I go further on this deal. It’s just a basic seamaster I think it’s 2011 or so I would definitely put up pics here as many of you have owned, sold or are just much more familiar with the watch than myself. Communication with the seller is slow going so I may just drop the whole idea. It would be nice to have and I’ve been seeking a more modern seamaster, I have a 65, but it’s certainly not as high on my list as it would have been 2 months ago or however long ago this started

Financially I'm pretty good right now since I work at a large tech company that can handle a bit of a depression, but who knows how it's going to be after 6-12 months. I just recently got interested in watches and since all the stores are closed I've only seen pictures of the watches I'm curious about, I can't decide what I want to get. I think I'll need to hold a Speedmaster in my hands before I know whether I want it or not...

Took another look at the Seiko Chronographs and when I found one seller had these for only $90 USD I was about to pull the trigger when I saw the watches shipped from New York. I remembered that some watch makers were spraying packages with disinfectant and keeping them in a store room for three days before opening and decided why take the chance, slim though it might be, that a package from a Corona hot spot might bring viruses along with it.
By now the very air in New York isn't safe to breath. Postal workers everywhere are becoming infected.
I get few letters or packages but tons of junk mail. I'm going to start tossing junk mail in the garbage bin as soon as it arrives.

Years ago I was sent a collectors item from South Africa and within a day of opening the package I came down with something that caused me a lot of respiratory distress, it lasted off and on for about two weeks or so. Never figured out what it was but the package had been the only thing out of the ordinary at the time.

I had always assumed that germs and viruses wouldn't survive a long time in transit but recent events tell us otherwise.

PS apparently some Amazon workers are concerned that they may have spread the virus unknowingly.

I’m kinda similar.. I’ve tried on a few speedmasters with bracelet and leather strap and thought I was sold.. since coming here though my eye keeps drifting to the Seamaster Diver 300m - looking forward to the AD reopening to try a few on!

I would say any luxury good industry will be affected. There are individuals wealthy enough o not have to worry. I am not one of them. I have reason to worry, and reason to not buy for a while.

Well, @Walrus , I am sure @blufinz52 meant to write “don’t take anything I say seriousLY”, correct? I also dislike grammar nazis. 😁

The medical profession is being hit pretty hard as there are effectively no elective surgeries / procedures going on most places...I realize "physician struggles" in the US don't tend to garner sympathy, but there is a ripple effect...techs, nurses, secretaries, office managers, employees at billing companies...both in private practice and the hospital.

But in keeping with the theme of the thread, yes, our volume is down 60% and the hospital just asked us to take a 50% paycut on top of that to keep nurses et al on the payroll, so the current climate has put the kibosh on my watch hobby/addiction.

Which is fine because sometimes one needs to pause for perspective...there are lots of people struggling now and lots more will be struggling in the ensuing months, and it makes me uncomfortable to indulge my superfluous proclivities rather than maintain the ability to help my family & friends.

Purchased a Cartier tank for my wife's birthday back in early February (which feels like ages ago) and that will probably be it for a while.

I think the default mode has to be that you must assume any package is contaminated, and treat it accordingly.

One up-side of Corona is that my watchmaker has been significantly less busy, and so, apparently, is the postal service. I sent him a watch, it was received in a day; he overhauled it in two days, and it came back in a day. So, I got the package, and will let it sit without touching it again for three days; that should be safe.

If the price is right, I’m a buyer. I’ve noticed a lot of watches up for sale as people need cash or just feel insecure. If you have money to spend, now might be a time to buy

Same here, I'm constantly going back and forth between the SMP and Speedy.

After seeing what was going on over on The Bay I listed a couple items (high end pocket watch cases) at pretty high prices, both bought w/in 24hrs for more than I thought they would bring. There are bored buyers out there for sure.
Now my PayPal is ready for a Speedy purchase! Woohoo!
