Hard choice: Speedmaster 60th LE or Speedmaster Speedy Tuesday LE?

To clarify: I like all Speedmasters and respect those who own them. As a 30+ year collector with 50+ new and vintage watches I fully understand that men's jewelry is a matter of personal taste, there is no right answer.

I merely bring up some of the more extreme versions of the Speedmaster in an effort to debate the point of whether or not the 60th Anniversary 2915 is or isn't a "gimmick" which is what it has been accused of in this thread. Might it be a gimmick to re-release a rare and collectible vintage watch worth over $200K with faux-patina in as-new condition? Perhaps. But by the same logic, is it not a gimmick to re-release a vintage watch with a picture of Snoopy on it? Yes.

That's all, not judging. And as I stated earlier, I'm a NASA fan. There are very few items one can own that are authentic NASA moon certified equipment, the actual thing they took to the moon looking and feeling the same way. The Speedmaster, in its original livery, is very cool in that regard.

Uh....okay. I say instead of worrying about what "purists" think and arguing over what's gimmicky or not, just buy what you like. Not every collector gets to this place, but those who do find it makes life much simpler.

Cheers, Al

I don't worry about what purists think nor do I think anyone else should. I was asked to clarify my position and I think I summarized it nicely.

I think we are fortunate to be fans of a brand that offers this much diversity and choice, it's very cool that Omega can make authentic NASA certified watches for that crowd, cartoon watches for that crowd, and vintage reproductions for that crowd. They can take care of us all, it's very cool.

So @speedolex do you hate the New Sea Dweller that was just announced? I also assume you hate the entire Tudor line.

I'm a Rolex purist, I would never wear a Tudor and I don't pay attention to those who do, so it's rather inconsequential for me. No different than Casio or Seiko. I pay no attention to those brands thus am not qualified to have an opinion of their value, status, or assortments.

I have a Submariner so I'd never buy a Sea Dweller it's too big for me. My Rolex love ends with the Submariner, Explorer, and Datejust. I'm on a Daytona waiting list but my patience is wearing thin there.

A very nice pair indeed! So different and yet so alike!
I definitely will take the ST.
The 60. anniversary fits even better at my (small) wrist, but I want to see it on a light-brown leather strap (because I do not wear braclets). I have made a reservation for it as well, but I am not yet sure if I will buy it...

Anyway - both wonderful timepieces and somehow not compareable...

Well said. For me, there are only two Speedmasters:

1. The Moonwatch. It's made one way, just like the astronauts wore it, black dial, white markers, that's it.
2. The CK2915. Retro classic from 1957, nothing to do with the space program, just a cool looking watch with arrow hands.

Just give me the Moonwatch and the 2915. Goodbye, Snoopy Tuesday.

I think Omega may disagree. But what do they know.

I thought you would like "Goodbye, Snoopy Tuesday"

Guess not a Rolling Stones fan.

What makes you think I didn't like it?

Look the Snoopy LE's are oddballs with hardcore NASA cred. They are not my cup of tea but the value is not really in the Comic Book character. The Snoopy Award is a real thing that Omega received. Which they rightfully celebrated with those 2 watches. I personally thought non watch NASA collectors went for those, which is not the case of the other LE's. I doubt there was demand from Snoopy Cartoon collectors.

This is people's opinion there is no need to change peoples opinions and for the record WE KNOW YOUR OPINION

You do know that the ST LE is more authentic NASA certified than the 60th don't you.

To clarify: I like all Speedmasters...

Really? I too have come to understand and respect that everyone is different and have varying tastes, but having flicked through my copy of Moonwatch Only yesterday I am comfortable declaring that there have been some ugly and pointless Speedmaster releases over the years.

Should you be using the word "opinion" three times in the same sentence?

You do know that the ST LE is more authentic NASA certified than the 60th don't you.

Wait. So you're asking me my opinion?

Yes. Comes with a leather strap, a NATO strap, and a springbar tool.
