Speedy Tuesday or Ultraman ...

Hello all,

I recently sold my old FOIS and I am now on the hunt for a new Speedmaster.

At first i wanted a Speedy Tuesday, but for various reasons, I now doubt about this choice.

I had never really been interested in the Ultraman but the more I watch videos about it, the more I think it's the one I want.

I'm curious to hear other opinions, which of these two Speedmaster do you think is the most legitimate for a Speedmaster collection?

Thank you 馃憤

I have both. I think they are both nice watches, but I have only ever worn the ultraman. This was not a conscious decision, it's a consequence of me being abroad when the watch arrived and being away for 18 months after it arrived, I just never bothered wearing it.
The Ultraman is a watch I wear often. It is a great looking watch and if I was going to get one of them, I think the Ultraman would be the one for me.
As far as which one might be more legitimate, I don't think one pips the other although many might pick the Speedy Tuesday because it was the first one.

One is a little playful, and the other looks a bit more formal/ buttoned up. If i had to choose between the two I would keep the ST1, as I have a soft spot for pandas and reverse pandas.

I had both, bought in 2019 and 2020. Wore them occasionally, thought they would be long term keepers in the collection, but they got less and less wrist time and with thirteen Speedmasters I wanted to thin the herd. So I sold/traded the ST1, ST2, a Tokyo 2020 Sedna/steel and a Hesalite 3861 for two completely different style of watches in two deals last month. Of the two I think the ST1 is more compelling, but that's just my personal opinion.

ST1 has the radial subdials, right?

Love those, and I don't think there are many others that have them

The first speedy tuesday is not as legible as the ultraman (or most other moonwatches) due to the white gold hands. They make the speedmaster suffer from daytona problems.

But the hands are a brushed aluminium-like finish so I never had any issues telling the time, everything is non-reflective. That's one of the cool things about that watch, the only polished surfaces are the Omega logo on the dial, crown and tang buckle, everything else is a brushed finish. Very understated in appearance. I'm wearing a Daytona now (black dial) and there are so many polished features that it is often difficult to pick out the hands at a quick glance. An ST1 presents no such problems.

Obviously biased here, but the Ultraman is the only one for me . Legibilty is great too & I know there are so many Speedmaster itinerations too choose from but the Ultraman just lifts itself above the rest .

Interesting that you went for the older, bulkier 1861 bracelet vs. the newer, trimmer 3861.

The Ultraman is great. Subtle but also unmistakable to those in the know.

Very interesting, thank you all !

This is a project for the first half of 2026, so I still have some time to think about it. I will let you know what I have decided.

The white hands on a white subdial don't help 馃檨

A beautiful watch for sure, but the ultraman is objectively more legible.

The main hands as they pass over the light subdials don't present a readability issue.

Legibility between the ST1 and ST2 are subjective in my view, not objective. Having lived with both I give the nod to the ST1 for instant legibility. But it's all personal opinion.
