Hard choice: Speedmaster 60th LE or Speedmaster Speedy Tuesday LE?

Have to say all these threads about Speedy Tuesday versus the 60th confuse me. Did Omega mandate that reservation holders of the former could not buy the latter, or that purchasers of the 60th must relinquish any Speedy Tuesday reservations?

Why not buy both? I'm sure in a few years' time examples of both will be available secondhand. If you can't afford both this year, start saving up. Just please, quit it with these threads and the disparaging comments either way

Well said. For me, there are only two Speedmasters:

1. The Moonwatch. It's made one way, just like the astronauts wore it, black dial, white markers, that's it.
2. The CK2915. Retro classic from 1957, nothing to do with the space program, just a cool looking watch with arrow hands.

Just give me the Moonwatch and the 2915. Goodbye, Snoopy Tuesday.

But, but, but, that's not the moonwatch, that's the watch that commemorates the moon landing. The moonwatch had a 321 in it, applied logo, and long indexes.

My 321 told me to tell you hello, it's nice to meet you, and that while he didn't land on the moon he was in outer space and that he and his brother the 861 look practically the same and that's not what most of these LE's look like. He also said that he's always gotten along with other Speedmasters and they show him a great deal of respect because he is so authentic.

They're both beautiful watches, but they are for two different customers, I think that's why there is some debate and why it is a hard choice for some but no-contest for others. I don't think the comments have been disparaging [with the exception of the poster who felt the 60 was a gimmick] but rather demonstrate something that makes Omega and it's strategy with the Speedmaster so interesting- diversity. Diversity of design and diversity of consumer. That's all good.

...other Speedmasters...show him a great deal of respect because he is so authentic.

I can understand why. That is such a clean example!

You do know that the ST LE is more authentic NASA certified than the 60th don't you.
Wait. So you're asking me my opinion?

You know what a dictionary is as you used it previously, look up "question mark" because there doesn't seem to be one in my above

Jesus man, get over it. It's a freaking watch and I am entitled to my opinion.

For ME it's GIMICKY.

Know it's dangerous when I think... however the more I do the less I see the appeal in the 57 replica speedy.

It's whole appeal is that it's a faithful replica of the original. I get that, however the original speedmaster with the broad arrow hands and metal bezel didn't last long principally because nobody liked how it looked.

After the metal bezel and broad arrow hands were ditched the Speedmaster then became popular, and then it's space race link blasted it into the stratosphere and beyond (literally!). Only retrospectively did the 2915 become popular because of its significance within the history of the speedmaster family (not because of its looks).

So yes this new watch is a faithful replica for the most part, but I just don't get why anyone would want it. It's a fairly large scale replica of a watch that was unpopular but is only now popular due to its scarcity and its link as the predecessor to more storied and better looking ancestors.

It's kinda like wanting a poor Verrocchio because he trained Da Vinci.

Interesting and I agree to a degree.

However, tastes do change over time. The same could be said for the Newman Daytona.

Hi Guys,

This is my first post here on Omega forums and I would like to thank the community for a lovely source of information.

I have a Rolex no date sub ref. 114060 since 2015 and is looking for my next watch. I am kind of a purist and love classic design.

I find this tread very interesting since I have a similar dilemma. I have the opportunity to purchase the Omega Speedmaster 60th anniversary model at my local AD and was thrilled about it in the beginning but have started to have second thoughts. My dilemma is, should I get the 60th or just go for a new regular Speedmaster professional.

This is in my toughts the Speedmaster 60th

Pros
Classic design
Slim case
Faithful re-edition to the CK 2915
Nice bracelet

Cons
Vintage luminova
Grayish tropical dail
Smaller case size

My biggest concern is the case size, I would not like the watch to look to small, and then there is the tropical dial. I find it very hard to get an idea of how the dail actually looks. In some images it looks fairly black, but in some it looks almost greyish.

In the long run I would like to extend my collection to maybe 3–4 watches and only have one per brand. With that in consideration would it be better to go with the regular speedy or would my future collection be more interesting with the speedy 60th. A future collection could look like this:

Rolex no date sub, Omega speedmaster 60th and Patek Phillipe Natilus

Rolex no date sub, Omega speedmaster 60th, Patek Phillipe Natilus, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Hi there - and welcome! 😀

I made a reservation for this watch, after I had it in my hands at the Baselworld.
A couple of weeks afterwards I had again a chance to try it on my wrist (I have a very small wrist).
It looks great - if you wear it on the steel braclet. However, braclets are not my thing. I only wear leather straps. This said, the watch is the perfect female watch with the leather strap. (19/16)

Also I share the concern with the grayish dial (same problem with the newer Pmega SM300).

So, I will not buy it. I'll concentrate on the ST...😉

Hi 😀

That’s very interesting! The grayish dail keeps me up at night 🙁 How did you think the vintage lume looked?

Good question! I like it for now. But honestly I don't know if it sustains, if I still like it in 1 year.
It seams to brownish for me, especially in respect to the sub-dial counters...

Wow. Just came here (great forum, by the way) to get some info on my Speedmaster (and also an DeVille) and who do I see up to his old tricks again? Speedolex.
I guess those banned from TheRolexForum wind up here.
