This will probably be more than enough:

$40, sometimes can be found for much cheaper

My vote too... that or the classic one (some combo of numbers & letters which I have no way of remembering).

Oh!

Another idea, they make a polished chrome'y one with a reverse (is that the term) screen.

Very nice and with a more premium strap (according to G-Shock aficionados)...

this:

Keep the ideas coming guys. Sorting through the Casio models is like trying to shop for jeans…so many to choose from and some suck.

YOU TAKE THAT BACK!

I've tried that one ↑ on and truthfully I almost purchased it... full solar, it was very nice.

More than you want to spend BUT if he's that big of a human you may need him later in life for some "work" so $440 might be cheap.

Timex do some nice analogs designed with outdoors in mind, some cool functions as well and straps that don't break when you get physical with the outdoors not just mud, that's for pussies!! and they don't look like enlarged tumouros Oreo's with Japanese meth pshcodelia built in for free.

Might be totally useless since it’s not a G-Shock and you asked for Casio but what about the Arnie re-issue 😀 If he works out might ad well wear a watch that Arnie also wore. I have had it for a couple of years and like it. It’s big but wears really well.

This is the current version of my beloved Casio. They've added moon phase and tide indicators and $5 to the price since I bought mine in 2011. Currently $32 on Amazon. I can't recommend it enough for the price and wears much smaller than most G-Shocks. That being said, I know you're looking for a nice gift so maybe this is too cheap. Aesthetically, the new Casio-Oaks do look really good and will probably be more proportional on his big ole' paws. Any of the GW5xxx series with a regular display will be winner.

I always call this model the "Bal Arms". That damn "5", besides the font style, is too close to "ALARMS" for my eyes to see anything but "BALARMS".

DWs and mudman for gshocks in general.

Frogman and marlin for diving.

Except digitals, HD series and MRWs.
