Strap help for Pie Pan

Hi!

I inherited my fathers Pie Pan, 168.025, which Im getting overhauled now. I need, however, help choosing a new strap. Some questions:

  • I often see these on a black or brown reptile or croc/gator strap, which can be beautiful, but … is it really ok to buy «exotic» straps in 2025?
  • This is a dress watch. Is it possible to dress it down for casual use? Is it possible to be «creative»? Or just keep it old school with trad colours?

Thanks!

I think that exotic straps are a personal choice. But as long as you buy them from legal sources I’m not sure I see much of an ethical difference between gator and cow leather. Both are farmed.

Personally I don’t see a gold constellation as a casual watch, but it could look good with a colorful strap, eg green.

I prefer dark brown with gold, you can get a croc or alligator pattern on regular leather strap they can look decent, if you wish to avoid an actual reptile. WatchGecko has some nice options, and many other popular strap sources previously noted here- search OF for leather strap sources. In the end your choice, no right or wrong, and I think you can wear this watch on a regular basis dress or casual.

Sorry to say but most people outside our watch bubble do not care about what you wear on your wrist. Sure, a gold (capped) watch might attract some views, but the chance people recognize lizard from gator skin is minimal. Wear what you like, what will bring you joy! Who are we to say otherwise. James Bond wears a diver watch with tuxedo... In the end, the only one who cares will be just you.

Depending where you are, there are strap retailers at very low price points, ie. CNS watchband and a few others. The quality will be so so, but this enables you to test what pairing/color you like before going more expensive on an exotic strap.

And as said above, that watch is pretty thin, will go under the sleeve easily. So dressing up or down is not too much of an issue, just make sure you get a strap you like!

Thanks for the answers. What did these watches come on, originally?

Regarding excitic leather: I am mostly comcerned about contributing to the demand of leather from endangered species…even if straps are made of farmed animals, i guess a lot is poached too:/
