Funky SM 300 165.014 (crappy pics included!!)

Hello all, I saw this but passed on it. I really like this reference but am not very familiar with it, so wanted to hear some thoughts so that I’m better prepared next time.

My opinion, based on the lousy photos, is:

Case is soft

Bezel insert is not authentic (seems every one I can find has a “longer” 3 and flat top “4”, to name a few differences). Bezel itself is original??

Dial is original/correct (and beautiful)

Hour and minute hand are aftermarket, or relumed? They look so perfect that it makes them look off to me.
Side note: did this model even come with sword hands? Seems all of them I can find come with “pencil hands” (not sure the correct term)

Serial is in the 24 million range. What is the accepted range for this model?

Crown is later

Caseback heavily polished (same as rest of case)

I think it sold for under $5k.

As per usual it depends on price - if you are picking this up at a pawn shop for a grand - good job! If someone is charging $6K for it - ehhh....

1) do the sword hands look authentic and period correct to you (even though they don’t belong on this watch)?
2) the 24 million serial is much too late for this model, correct? Should I expect it more in the 20 million range?

As everyone else has said you are on point with your comments, except I would add a possible relume of the dial as well. I could be wrong but the short marker at 9 seems a bit out of shape.

Here is a “crappier” picture of a 165.014. I will take a look tomorrow to check on the serial number. I am sure this one is 100% authentic (except for the crown which was missing when I got it)

As much as I like the sword hands, they don’t belong, I can’t speak for its authenticity, but I’m leaning “no”—purely guessing/judging from photos.

Does it look good as is?
Yes—if I don’t own the watch. The nerds will point it out every time you post a wrist shot. Lol. I know.

The non-uniformed aging of case/dial/hands bothered me more than the sword hands.

in some ways, I’d like my 50yo watch to look its age. I find the rusty hands, cracked lumes charming and authentic.

a better and accurate version is between 5-$8k. if yours is way below this range, then hey…but, original dial, hands and bracelet maybe difficult to hunt—I’m guessing here, based on its age.

But if you skip on this, why not hunt for a ref the right sword hands.
