My condolences to Tom's family. We chatted over the years and spent an evening in the pub some years ago when I was on a course at the BHI. Tom drove over and sat with the group of budding watchmakers and very experienced lecturers. He brought a terrific collection of watches, many of which were worth a great deal of money but just dropped them on the table for all to pick up and handle. An entertaining evening where we discussed cars, watches, further education and many other things. A thoroughly nice guy with great enthusiasm for many subjects.

My thoughts are with his family, Chris

This is awful news, I am so sorry for your loss. Tom was generous with his guidance and his enthusiasm was contagious, he gave me thoughtful and kind answers several times.

I was rather surprised to discover his age. With his depth of knowledge I’d always assumed he was older. Taken tragically young. I too worked in FE in the midlands what seems life a lifetime ago so do feel an affinity and loss beyond our mutual watch interests.

Every loss leaves a hole but he should have had many more years.

Oh what terrible news, I didn't know him personally but always found him helpful and interesting, not to mention a man of impeccable taste.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

My condolences to all his family, with Esther and the kids at the forefront of our minds.

I lost contact with Tom about 6yrs ago, we emailed very occasional at the start of that period but that soon drifted off.
My chance now to reconnect with Tom now tragically taken, something I shall always lament.

I am proud to say though, that I was there at the start of Toms watch journey.
My speciality at the time were the f300's, and the other ESA tuning fork based movements, Tom had been in contact regarding the strange quartz massive chunk of steel he had happened upon, from that moment, we were hooked on the 2.4mhz.
Tom was far more commited and canny than I, and it was apparent that I would become more reliant on him, than him on me.

Many trips to Southend ensued, generally tied in with a visit to Tony at STS, to drop off some oddity Tom or I had found for Tony's 80s/90s Omega Quartz collection, maybe something for the glass cases or to hassle Wayne, or later Simon to hurry through our service.
We traded, swapped, gifted, found, repaired numerous watches, boxes, bracelets, parts over the years and I cannot fathom now why we lost touch, ......life, family, age, apathy perhaps.

Tom and Esther were the witnesses at mine and Nikki's wedding, we kept it low key and they were the obvious choice to share our day.
My oldest, 1 at the time, and now 15, doesn't remember, but I remember how they both doted on him..

RIP Tom, the second friend I have lost this year, both far too young, and both too soon for me to meet again.

So sorry to read this.
Always a gentleman sharing his knowledge. A pillar of this community.

Among his many areas of expertise, the UK woven cable bracelet from DS&S.

Hi all,

It’s with a very heavy heart that I pass on the incredibly sad news that my brother Tom unexpectedly passed away yesterday.

I know, other than his family, that watches were his life and I know that there are people in the watch community that knew him on many different levels.

Could I please ask that the people that knew him, pass this on to his friends.

Andy

Please accept my heartfelt sympathies to you and your family.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that’s said such kind words about Tom on here, on other sites such as TZ-UK and even on IG.

My family and I are still trying to come to terms with what has happened but we have all taken solace in reading or hearing the kind words people have posted across various plate forms, as well as in person.

Omega’s, watches and the community that encompasses them had been such a huge part of Tom’s life for so long! And in turn, as it’s become plain to see, his infectious passion and knowledge has rubbed off, helped or inspired so many others too, myself included.

There isn’t much in life that will bring people comfort in these times, but the kind words, the sheer number of well wishers, the love and the admiration that people have shown towards him have offered us all some solace and it’s been a great measure of the man he’d become.

So thank you!

Andy

My condolences as well. It was thru Tom's appreciation of Omega marine chronometers that I was introduced to the same. I always appreciated the education I found and enjoyed within his countless contributions.

I'd like to add my condolences as well. When I first discovered the OMC Tom was very generous with sharing his vast knowledge of them to me
