I am missing the “Homemade/DIY component malfunctioning again” category
Not that I would need these cards. 😁😎

Recently I added these to my system…The Lehmann pre amp had been sitting in a box for years waiting for me to finally take time to figure out how to install it. As the new Marantz CD deck has an on board headphone jack, I’ve tended to get lazy and just plug in there. Yesterday, I decided to A/B the Marantz on board pre-amp vs the Lehman using St. Vincent’s latest. It was no contest. The soundstage was bigger, the detail and sound cleaner with the Lehmann. I’m now considering what’s possible if I upgrade my Cambridge 651P Phono pre-amp. Guess my scepticism about investing in higher end pre-amps is over. View attachment 1328045

My uncle was a subscriber, I used to borrow past copies and read it religiously. Great magazine. I believe it morphed into “Sound and Vision” but it wasnt the same.

A meme in a story reposted by one of my IG friends got me to thinking the other day. It was about how someone's young (I'm thinking early 20s) roommate was repeatedly playing the Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker saying it was a straight-up banger (which I agree it is). Anyway, I wonder if young people listen to classical music by choice these days. I know plenty of young people are still becoming classical musicians - but who's listening to them?

Back in the 70's I subscribed to Stereo Review, High Fidelity and Audio magazine, they were serious magazines for serious listeners. They changed over the years and once Home Theater became the big thing I stopped reading, and most audio mags went out of business or went online over the years. Not the same.

My wife and I attend the Chicago Symphony several times per season. I’d say that at least a third of the audience are young.

Latest upgrade after much research. After puzzling through matching it to my Ortifon 2m Bronze cartridge, I’m getting instant improvement over my old Azure pre amp, especially with the Beatles Mono recordings which were dull as dirt through my new headphones and pre amp. I’m sure sound will continue to improve as the tubes burn in. My Pro-Ject speed box makes a nice proportional companion.

A good friend of mine runs that through his EAR preamp (early Tim D design). It is better than the phono pre in the EAR.

Forgive my ignorance but that room looks like sound would bounce around it like a super-ball in a squash court, no?

I was thinking the same thing. The beams on the ceiling will break up some sound but all those large flat surfaces will make for a lot of echo an acoustic interference.

Interesting. It’s a very highly regarded pre amp for the money. I was actually looking at the top of the line McIntosh unit, but decided spending 2k was overkill, although I still need a way to digitize my records, which it offered in addition to a mono mode. This according to the articles/reviews I read does everything I need it to. I did purchase a recommended tube upgrade from Amazon.
