Sennheiser HD600s are a good call, +1 from me. I have an old set of Stax Lambda Professional ‘earspeakers’ which are pretty incredible, but as ever it comes down to personal taste, electronics set up, and source material 😀.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Jecklin Floats as well, but that could be because they make you look like an alien from Blake’s 7 😉

Being from and in Milwaukee, of course you have to have tried various Koss models over the years. The HV/X sounded great for the time and were quite comfortable. Alas, you can't get the shaped foam for them anymore.

Koss has been making electrostatic headphones for decades now, and they still do. They sound darn good but I don't know if any model was ever comfortable to wear. Heavy and usually not enough ear room inside the cups.

I do want to get some Stax sometime. I use an upgraded DAC-Talent as my D/A converter.

My 1980s Luxman during restoration. It's currently running a pair of RCA black plates.
If you haven't yet, try some 6057 (if you can find them) or JAN-12AX7WA, assuming I have identified those tubes correctly. If not, let me know. 😀

I’ve never tried Koss electrostatics, but Koss Porta Pros were my go to headphones while listening to my Sony Walkman WM-D3 on the Underground back in the day - it’s amazing the depth of bass they could generate from such a small size.

....Sony Walkman WM-D3....

d3, d6c, dd9
I need to power up them again soon

back on track, I am thinking to get a kiss porta pro as a gift for a my friend bass guitar player, considering it’s bass response. any opinion?

are the bass notes sound like true fundamentals or monotonic resonant booms on that headphone?

the specification states down to 15hz but not saying how much +/-dB, so that does not really help a lot

6CG7 (6FQ7)

I was running a set of Tung-Sol 6CG7 for a while but they're a bit too clear for me. I like a little bit more warmth. Was searching for a pair of Mullards for a while but I fear the ship has sailed on UK-made 6CG7's.

I did a great job of hiding these from myself.

When listening to my WM-D3 I use my Grado SR80e headphones. They are a decent set that doesn't hurt the pocket book too much.

What's a "sterile" tube? Comes from a white box?...

Identifiable that a certain factory made it but it is not labeled with a brand name.

You would initially think it meant it cannot reproduce...

Porta Pros were great for Walkmans as most other ‘mobile’ headphones at the time had little discernible bass reproduction - I can’t recall dB measurements but they’re inexpensive so worth a try. I wouldn’t be using them in a studio though

A very early Linn LP12 from 1973 with Grace 704 (rare) erector set arm. Should be fun restoring it.

That was in an auction recently. Some great vintage stuff in it.
The auction was in the middle of nowhere with poor options for postage and packing. If you look at the prices someone got some real bargains as a result.

You are correct, some stuff went for a pretty penny. I bid on a few items, I really wanted the 500C, but I'm sure if I kept going it was going to crack 1k. Not enough work as of late to be spending a grand or more on another piece of HIfi. Sooner or later on will appear locally.

I have a 500C great receiver. The 800C (same machine with addition of AM radio) seem to go much cheaper. Wherabouts are you? an 800C fully refurbished and recapped sold on ebay recently for £500 that was in Finland. The guy seems to refurbish a lot of vintage HiFi and ships it worldwide.
