Here's an interesting auction sale that just happened......Jerry Garcia's favorite McIntosh power amp, an MC2300 he called 'Budman', went for $378,000 at Sotheby's 'Property from the Grateful Dead and Friends'. 300w/channel or 600w in mono mode, huge power in that era, 128 lbs.

That's an impressive amp and truly powerful for thre time. My McIntosh only puts out 40W a channel.

Speaking of Marantz. CD 6007 I was buying headphones for the kid for Xmas and this was on sale as an open stock return. I had narrowed an upgrade to this or the Rotel. I grabbed it to augment/ upgrade from my Yamaha changer which is getting up there. I’ve been having fun A/B ing recordings between the two. Over the dammed moon with its performance. Sounds amazing through my Rotel/ B&W gear. Warmer, more detailed, amazing soundstage. Build quality is excellent. I don’t care about SACD so wasn’t gonna spend more. It’s top rated for a good reason.

Also just installed this after years of procrastination and it sitting in its box. I’d love to hear some headphone recommendations.

I’d love to hear some headphone recommendations.

I've loved my Grado 225s (2005-2005), 325s (2005-2015), and now PS500es (2015-present), but I'm no audiophile. They have a clear sound that I like.

Headphones are really a personal choice, a can someone likes doesn't sound good to another listener. I like Focal headphones....a Focal Clear (open back) that pairs well with classical, vocals and jazz music, and a Focal Radiance (closed back) which has a bit punchier bass for rock. The Clears are now the Clear MG, supposedly better but I've not heard them. About $1,500. But there are many choices in all price ranges.

I've bought from www.headphones.com based in Portland, OR, they have a one year money back guarantee, if you don't like them after 350 days they will take them back and refund your money. Lots of reviews on the site so you can get a feel for which model might work for you. Good, upfront guys to work with, always available to give free advice.

For headphones I am now loving the Apple Airpods Max.

But you can't go wrong with Sennheiser if you can afford the really good ones.

I used to have a Lehmann Black Cube SE phono stage and it was really great.

My only beef… I don’t recall what I paid for it but it wasn’t cheap. An on/off switch would be nice.

Just leave it on all the time!
Most of my gear (Linn) has a standby mode where they go into a low power mode when not in use. It's really helpful! I use the built in phono stage on my Linn Akurate DSM these days (it has MM and MC, I'm using MM with a Grace F-14) and it is the best stage I've used.

Sennheiser HD600s are a good call, +1 from me. I have an old set of Stax Lambda Professional ‘earspeakers’ which are pretty incredible, but as ever it comes down to personal taste, electronics set up, and source material 😀.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Jecklin Floats as well, but that could be because they make you look like an alien from Blake’s 7 😉

inhad Jecklin Floats in my misguided youth. The electro stats sound like nothing else.
