That Denon is a classic cart and I suspected the table was a Thorens.

I miss the setup I had when I used a Decca C4E cart.

BTW, while I emjoyed the time I spent making low-end into high-end, I just lost interest in it, so I got Parasound electronics except for my Stax DAC-Talent with a D/A upgrade.

Still have my Nobis/Signature speakers. Though if I ever see Bob Smith again, I'm going to smack him for stealing my father's books!

The secret is to know when you like it.

Indeed! I used to tell people it's easy to get to 98% Above 98% it's personal preference.

When I was a teenager in the late 70's there was a Pacific Stereo store in our town. I am not sure if I am remembering or dreaming that, that store had a kind of magical smell of electrical ether, plastic and woods... and maybe some Hai Karate. Anyway, the salesmen were always super patient with us, especially when we went into the hi-end anti chamber with all the untouchables (unaffordables). For my high school graduation present I got a Denon receiver. to pair up with my Onkyo turntable. My friends thought I had the ultimate stuff.

I seem to love music more and more. The combo of vinyl, hi- res digital files on a local NAS and quality streaming really lets you get a great sound. I tend to test out albums on streaming, buy the ones i like for local storage and but the ones I REALLY like on vinyl

Main set up is:

Auralic G1 for streaming
Rega RP8 with Ortofon Bronze MC for vinyl
Mytek Brooklyn DAC
Rega Ios phono stage
Prima Luna Dialogue Premium with KT 150s
Focal 1008 be 2 speakers
Focal Clear headphones
Sennheiser 800s headphones

truly glorious sound with no interest in upgrading anything. This has been fixed now for about 2 years. Personal nirvana

It's actually not nonsense that resistance can build up between the connectors.

So twist 'em around every half year, you should be good. 馃榾

Nice combo 馃憤 How鈥檚 the room set up? Do you need to compensate for the angle of the side wall and the void in the corner?

The room is a problem. Medium sized open attic with a staircase down that works as a horn for downstairs listening 馃檨
Problematic left right balance, bass needed a subwoofer to not totally disappear. oberall I had to upgrade the watts from my 8W 300Bs to the class A monos.
But it kind of works right now and I am at peace. Also listen to headphones a bit.

Stumbled over this.

not even remotely close to some of the equipment you guys have but my Sansui G7000 (in mint condition I have to say) paired with my equally old EV Interface II speakers delivers for me. Definitely need a quality CD player and might see if my mum would swap out dad鈥檚 old Thorens 124 turntable for the modern something or other my sons bought for me a few years ago.

But the Sansui. 80 watts a channel my arse.

I hear you - I鈥檝e got one speaker next to a large open room with the other tucked into a corner, so my balance control also gets a bit of use 馃槈
Good on you for being at peace with it too, HiFi can end up being the chase for a 1% increase in sound quality

Hmm, I don't miss the analog days of the vinyl and cassette tapes with all the clicks, pops, and distortion. Not sure why people are now so hung up on it? The clean sound from a high bitrate digital audio file/streaming is much better. Not only that, I don't have to get up to change tracks. I suppose some of you would like to go back to owning a TV without a remote as well? 馃槈

I had always thought that you only needed to do that if you don't use the equipment often? I had the impression that if an electrical charge is put through the system, that charge will prevent the connection from oxidizing? Or at least slow it down drastically?

Can't say I would expect someone who goes by TechFounder to prefer vinyl over digital. I have had both, for a long time. Our two turntables are >30 years old, and were not expensive, and we do not have issues with clicks, pops or distortion. Digital is more convenient, but I can't say we prefer listening to it over vinyl. That being said, we just subscribed to Tidal and I have to pick up a couple streamers/ players that will work with Tidal Connect. Also looking to upgrade my TT, so both types of sources will stay in, uh, play.

That might be true at higher voltages and currents but the voltage is less than 1VAC and the current is approximately nothing (microamperes). So it won't hurt to clean things off every so often.
