Well not everyone like that level of crispiness....
I would have done the same for the case and hands but maybe kept that crispy dial (they probably just cleaned it )

Yes, I'm sure most on this forum would have gone down the full restore path. I see decent Flightmasters go for $3k now and then so would have rather dropped $1k onto one of those to make a pristine example. So if this one went to a watchmaker first, then off to Bienne and then apparently back to the watchmaker for casework?... according to their Insta blurb surely it will be $4-5k invested as a minimum.

Seems BS to me that 4/5k, but what do I know...

I’d say you know more than me! But 1k initial buy, current watchmaker has disassembled and replaced a bunch of the movement and cleaned, surely at least another 1k of parts and labour, send it off the Bienne another $1500 or more? Then back to the original watchmaker for case refinish $500+. I’ve been enquiring about service and parts for my project Flightmaster and this seemed reasonable…

Unless they drop a brand new dial (which would be costly ) I say with both services + watch they are at 2500, 3k with case refinishing. The dial would add quite a bit, but don't know how much one will cost from Omega (assuming they have a spare ).

Although at t that point the story of restoring because of sentimental attachment, would make sense. Because an honest one would be less than 5k .

Dials are available - about $300 US for that.

The real question is if Omega is going to charge some sort of standard price for the service, or if they are going to charge for all the parts. If they charge for all the parts, this will be very expensive. New balance wheel alone is $900, and by the time you add in replacing all the steel parts, $4-5K is not out of the question at all really.

There's something really off with this whole story to be honest.

I'm surprise dials are this cheap. Thanks for the insight.

Do you think that might be the reason for the first service and parts replacement? Like avoiding getting hammered once the watch is in Omega and just have the watch with a paper services straight from Switzerland?

It's more weird and somebody is definitely BS us on something.

What first service and original parts replacement? No photos shown here indicate that.

Unless someone is using a donor watch, the parts are going to cost whatever they cost. There's no advantage to doing a service first, then sending it in for a service - that makes no sense to pay for someone to service it twice.

I would say it's more weird that the original owner put the watch up for auction and then bought it. Maybe that's a normal thing where you are, but it isn't anywhere I know of.

No, it doesn't male sense. I'm just trying to give a sense to this mess.

So he just cleaned it up here?

So in that case he just did what? cleaned it up and then send it to Omega to get the fully restored?
No he doesn't make sense what he said he did, I'm just trying to find a sense in this mess.

It has been assembled, but that's not serviced. It doesn't appear that any parts were replaced. It was just put back together so they didn't just send a bag of parts to Omega...

Pretty much all the steel parts in this watch are going to be replaced, so whatever cleaning up was done, wasn't going to save any of those parts. The minute recording wheel doesn't seem to have a pivot on it (not visible in the jewel) so it was either rusted away completely or broken off. It's still the same basket case it was, just not as ugly.

So they just cleaned it up and then send it to Omega for proper service. Ok, now it makes kind of more sense.

That’s not just a bezel, that looks like a new crystal as well- and they “cleaned” up the dial. I know a few members who would wear this as-is 🙄

Present!
I would have repaint the second hands and small chrono hands to have them more visible though.😁

You sound like you know what you’re talking about. Ever work on a flightmaster before?

Not much in this story makes much sense…… I get the feeling that someone is trying to piss in our pockets…….if it looks like bullshit, smells like bullshit, tastes like bullshit, has the texture & feel of bullshit…it’s not going to be the strawberry ice-cream that they’re trying to sell you!
I dunno what the angle is, but all this load of bollocks, will be probably to someone’s benefit.

I’ve got better things to do than bother with social media, so I’ve no idea how far the bullshit has been spread, but the real test of a snow job these days, is if it’s slickly done, all over such outlets as Pootube, Twatbook etc.
Then you can bet it’s a beat up, to push someone’s agenda.
