A good time to remind that the value goes 2X if you weather, in this case since it was incinerated, probably 3X

You should see the premium that laco and Stowa did for the same thing lol!

I believe it’s surfaced - according to @vintatches.de on Instagram, they’ve been asked to restore it for the owner of the house it burned down in:

According to another post, it’ll go to Omega now for a full service and then the case will be restored by vintwatches.

And here are the other pics, in case anyone is curious how the movement looks. All pictures credit of vintwatches.de:

Mmm that’s strange, why disassemble it if it’s going to Omega for a full restoration?
Also, I doubt Omega would touch it, they’d want to replace the movement surely, which they don’t have.

Yes, that makes no sense at all. The only reason to do so, is if the movement couldn't be removed from the case without disassembling it, but that doesn't seem likely here.

This is all very confusing and suspect- it was auctioned- and won by the original owners? Who auctioned it? Why generate all this hype…hmmm.

This all feels like generated hype.
A watch like this goes on eBay and everyone in the watch world knows about it.
It quite rapidly goes from seller-buyer-repair- I would still be waiting for the fucker to arrive let alone already having it in cure with a watchmaker.
Watchmaker makes a big deal about posting lots of pics of the process so quickly.

All suspect.

I'm sorry what? " everyone in the watch world knows about it" ??? Hype??

Let's be realistic for a moment.
The fact that was hyped in here doesn't mean that the rest of the world cared. In fact, most likely 99.9% of the rest of the watch world did't care or knew about that watch.

A well known (now retired) McIntosh repair wizard restored a pair of amps that survived a house fire- pics below stolen from his website

Anything is possible if you have the right technician, right parts and deep pockets.

Dang! A pair of MC-30 Monoblocks! I used to own one of those that I was given by my uncle - it had been installed in his house in Binghamton NY around 1960 to run the home audio system. In 1960 they cost $153.50 each, which is around the same cost with inflation that I sold it for in 2016 - $1250 on ebay. The sale of that is a big chunk of what enabled me to purchase my Speedmaster.

In person delivery?

Does seem a bit on the fast side. Took forever for my recent binge to arrive.

On the other hand this watch took a week or so to restore.

Mostly sitting for a few hours in evap-O-Rust.

I have a much better Delbana AS 1194, which I have yet to touch. The landeron 48 delbana took over 25 years.

The Lathin now is mostly used as a bench clock as one of the lugs was damaged.

I suppose it really comes down to motivation.

I’m actually a bit disappointed they didn’t try to keep its crispy appearance. Now it will just look like every other FM.

Looks like a story made up by the winner of the auction.
it's much more glamorous than simply saying "I won it on ebay and i don't know what the story is behind it"

Well not everyone like that level of crispiness....
I would have done the same for the case and hands but maybe kept that crispy dial (they probably just cleaned it )
