Just came along this offer and wanted to share with you

https://www.ebay.de/itm/385460245398

Interesting to see how a watch can be damaged in a fire. Tbh I would imagine worse. Hands are still "intact" as is the inner bezel. Maybe the crystal saved them, but was detached later to see whats left inside. Would be interesting to see the movement.
Someone here brave enough to get it? 😀

Some pics for documentation purposes:

I’m keen! That’s art!
Actually think a few bits on that would clean up well for my project Flightmaster. That much heat near a movement would have to make it completely unrestorable. Would heat change the colour of the case?

No so sure it would. There would definitely be damaged, but "unrestorable" is a pretty rare condition for a watch movement to be in...at least in my experience.

Wow, what is the back story?

Seller writes: "Die Uhr wurde bei einem Brand EXTREM STARK BESCHÄDIGT und ZERSTÖRT. Die Uhr funktioniert NICHT und ist DEFEKT."

so basically watch was damaged during a fire and more or less destroyd. Therefore the watch is not working.

Poor flightmaster, it had a tough life. I hope you could bring it back, like the Phenix from the ashes (in this case from the rust)

My strange thought about this watch: I wonder what it smells like?

What's interesting to me is that the hands are still readable -- you could still totally tell what time it is!
Good luck if you get this! It would make for a really interesting restoration, probably many ways one could do this.
-Service mov't (or replace entirely?), new crystal, clean as much as possible and wear as is
-Same as above, replace dial and somehow try to get handset and dial condition to be close
-Hang it on a wall (@Arancio601's idea)
-???

Like it, like the idea of restoring it and in worst case I guess you could save some parts in it (pushers, hands, case and some parts of the movement maybe?). If I had any needs of parts or any skills in watchmaking I would have like to give it a try.
Let us know if you venture into that ;-)

I wonder?

Buy it and send it to Omega for a ‘service’!

Reminds me of the 1997 story involving an US pilot flying a Russian Mig 15 Fagot, wearing his Omega X33, but crashing the jet upon landing 👎

You can do like these sensational videos on YouTube “EXTREME RESTORATION OF BURNED DESTROYED OMEGA WATCH”.

Maybe you can even make some money with the views. I’d watch it. 🍿

Ummm, was someone wearing this watch when it was in the fire?

Been my thought the entire time too. My wife used to work Burn Unit so I can 100% say with certainty - if that was on a human being it's going to have a certain sillage.

Don't think so, when you say "bei einem Brand" in German, you usally mean buildings or items that got burnt.

@all. I just wanted to share it. I like projects, but I dont have an intend to buy or restore it. So if someone else want to give it a try, feel free 😀

I hope this is the case. I was just focusing on the watch when I made the "smell" (burnt metal, plastic, substrate) comment -- didn't even consider that someone would have been wearing this (yikes). Sometimes nice to be reminded that watches are usually attached to humans...

Encouraging to know. I’ve watched plenty of YouTube vids bringing back rusty blobs from the dead but never a burnt one.
So I guess I don’t say - that watch is toast!

Love it, very cool look.
Imagine keeping that patina and getting it going with a crystal sealing it all in?
