Flagship 3401 questions

I recently received a 1964 Flagship 3401 cal. 350 18k that belonged to my grandfather. I would like to have the watch serviced but am not sure what to look for or what that would entail. Should they replace parts, polish the case, replace the crystal. Or just have it cleaned and oiled. Any advice?

1960s Longines are great and well worth looking after.

I’d suggest you have it properly serviced. I’d expect it to cost about £120-140 plus postage. If you post where you are, someone will be able to recommend a watchmaker.

I suggest you replace the bracelet with a leather strap. Some metal bracelets can wear the lugs down particularly when the case is 18 ct gold.

So far as the crystal is concerned you could probably polish the scratches out with Polywatch but otherwise, a generic crystal should cost you about £10-12, when you get it serviced.

I'd recommend a soft jeweller’s cloth to remove any tarnish but would caution against having the case polished.

Lovely - leave alone. Get serviced movement only. If crystal bothers you buy som poly watch polish. Others know more than me but that movement can be a bit of a bother to fix if it is not running right from some things I have seen. If you say where you are you will prob get some recommendations for good servicing.

I'm located in Orange County area southern California.

Also would anyone know what a watch like this would have originally cost, and what it would be worth now?

Check out the ‘Sold listings' on eBay for a general idea of current value.

DO NOT TOUCH THAT AMAZING CASE!!! Not even to remove the tarnish. It's very rare to find an 18k gold case that is so sharp, and even a polishing cloth will soften the edges. Once done, you can't go back to the original shape.

That satin finish around the flagship on the back is perfect, like "factory new". Super rare to see something like this.

If you want some info on the movement, it can be found here:
http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft&&2uswk&Longines_350

The movement was made between 1961 and 1963, and according to the serial number on the movement, this one was made in 1963.

Thanks for the info! The watch has been sitting in drawer for 40 years glad to hear its in good condition!
