Cheers Hans, that's right 馃榾 these are my opinions. I'm not talking down to the FOIS by calling it a tribute as that's clearly what it is. A very nice one too. We all have our ideas of the perfect watch and in my case that rarely matches up with the manufacturers view. Luckily after much trial and error I now have the skills to do something about it. Actually I built a "CK2915" because indeed I did want something pre moon. 馃榾

It is probably the least attractive case back on any Speedmaster Pro I can think of off the top of my head (my opinion only of course). I would also swap it out if I had one.

Cheers, Al

Well... that is maybe until you lay eyes on the case back of the Apollo 15 40th Anniversary Limited Edition. That must in my world be one of the uggliest case backs ever made. Someone had to be fired for that design. 馃榾

And to be honest. I am not crazy about the "standard" Speedmaster Pro caseback either. Will probably get killed for that comment in this forum, but still 馃榾 But ok... fits the watch. The FOIS in general though is a lot more elegant and looks way better in my view and the case back is also more elegant than the std Pro. The plain pre moon back would look great though.

Okay I just looked at that and you got me there. Still the FOIS case back is pretty close to that in my view.

Since you are pretty active today Al, I'll ask. Do you believe the 145.0012 case back will fit the FOIS case?

Only way to know is to try it - I personally have no idea. Sorry!

There is someone who has fitted his own custom case back to the FOIS and I believe this case back was based on the 145.012 case back.

I wear my FOIS, so the caseback in not visible. 馃榿

The crown though is a real pain to use. It's too thin and 'hides' under the bezel. My fat fingers have an awful time.

hm, in my eyes it always seemed to be much easier to use the crown for winding up,
because of the smaller case (no crownguards)?!? Funny how different this can be 馃榿

I think you may be onto something.

After a couple of days on the wrist, i am starting to dig this watch more. Currently running about -1 second, with or without chrono engaged--impressive. Sort of like owning a Singer 911, vintage charm with modern conveniences. If they only made the lume not so super bright white.

I think after the new SM300 we might see some more vintage patina lume around on watches like this, they did a really nice job of that one

I think they did a great job at bringing a classic watch on a classic size, respecting the original but allowing for new technology . exactly what they didn't do with the SMP 300 master where they opted to give it an aged look that imo, as beautiful as it is, is not necessary. both are beautiful great watches, but this one takes the lead IMO.

I also think they should start using tritium for all this watches, so that we can buy them new and witness all over again the natural aging process rather than a cosmetic enhanced one.
