·Yeah, today was an interesting day and records tied/broken. The all time goal score record will be broken. Then question is by who and how many by end of the tournament?

·Another interesting factoid when figuring in the all time goal record is how many teams were playing in each World Cup tournament.
Here is the # of qualifying teams for each WC:
Uruguay 1930: 13
Italy 1934: 16
France 1938: 15
Brazil 1950: 13
Switzerland 1954: 16
Sweden 1958: 16
Chile 1962: 16
England 1966: 16
Mexico 1970: 16
Germany 1974: 16
Argentina 1978: 16
Spain 1982: 24
Mexico 1986: 24
Italy 1990: 24
USA 1994: 24
France 1998: 32
Korea/Japan 2002: 32
Germany 2006: 32
South Africa 2010: 32
Brazil 2014: 32
Russia 2018: 32
Qatar 2022: 32
USA 2026: 48
Until the 80s, there were 16 teams. Then 23 teams. In 98, it doubled to 32. Now it jumped to 48.
It's brought more teams into the tournament and gives good story lines, upsets, more exposure on a world stage.
But one thing to consider is what would be the goal record if it was only the top 16 teams? Or top 24 teams?
Not saying it's a bad thing, only something to consider. With more teams from smaller nations, there are going to be more goals scored as there is a disparity in the quality and style depending on the stars and what countries they play for.
Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the group stages play out.

·England-Croatia was a barn burner, with Modric playing in 5th World Cup, and Kane 3rd. England looked sharp and poised at times, but had some lapses in 2nd half. And how about Messi playing in 6th WC, and scoring 3 goals in Argentinas opening match!

·Panama is probably still in shock from loosing in extra time.
Some of the bigger teams have definitely underperformed so far (Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Belgium), England and France (once they got started) looked strong, USA and Australia were surprisingly good (should be a great game when they meet). Germany: good on paper but I sorry to say that they would not have won against many other teams the way they played (and it is my home team..).
Good Cup all in all I would say so far.
