Fab. Suisse Roll Call

Given the variation of dial makers (and fonts used on their pads), and sheer number of dial variants, I’m going to suspend disbelief and seek out some research beyond the (same) Google searches we are all presumably doing. For example, here’s an example of a Movado catalog from the 40s with two examples that have pyramid shaped markers with lines extending to the outer track. I’ll start looking for material in older catalogs, as I think that’s a better path.

Like I said, the style of indices on your watch is a known style. There's nothing unusual about it.

Here's a contemporary example (these ones may be gems):

Dirtydozen and I are mostly working off of pattern recognition. The dial seems atypical and we're trying to figure out why. In the process, I'm finding misalignments with the printing that need explaining and I'm interested to see different photos angles to rule out distortions. None of our questions have to do with the pyramid indices.

As another note: I don't think the ad you posted shows three-dimensional pyramid indices. Those two watches have "foil", flat indices - like the Movado you posted above.

I was typing this just now. I have seen examples of the dials shown in the catalog and they had flat, foil indices with printed borders, which looked appropriate for the period, IMO.

Might be a good idea to move this whole Movado dial/markers discussion to its own thread to avoid, "dilution du Fab.Suisse"...

I had already posted an Omega Marine Fab. Suisse… but it was in steel.

Here is a gold version!

Lovely pocket watch, but I'm loving the stand too! I love all these old merchandising equipment hard to find though 😀

My turn to update this thread, with this little Frenchie just out of revision. Quite happy with this one as I had to wait a bit before wearing it.

N.B. it unfortunately suffered a shock, the lume on the hour hand is half gone, and the original glass had to be changed... I am looking for an Omega glass suitable for this model (PX5000 I believe?), if anyone know where to find one at a decent price?

You might be able to find the correct one on cousinsuk.com
