Leclerc has no chance for the championship this year. He and Sainz should be 1 and 2...instead they are going backwards. Binotto has to be fired, and all his strategy team with him. But you can't do that during the summer break...the whole team needs to have time to come together. That will have to happen in the off season and include development of the new car and getting the confidence of the drivers...if they even want to stay with Ferrari. But right now they are both damaged goods, so who would really want them. Red Bull's drivers aren't going anywhere. Neither are the guys at Mercedes. McLaren and Alpine are doomed to be mid pack contenders. Just as Haas and Alfa will be in the lower third of the grid. Red Bull doesn't need Alpha Tauri anymore...maybe they'll sell it to Andretti. Williams and Aston Martin bring nothing to the game. They could disappear from the grid and no one would miss them. That leaves Ferrari, and whatever poor fools drive for them, in a perpetual third place.

I’m really shocked by that… I’m a huge Alonso fan and seeing him go to that team in the state its in, with Lawrence Stroll…

I hope he knows something the rest of us don’t.

This move may not be all bad as it opens the door for the Australian Oscar Piastri to get his first seat in the top class and Alonso may be able to add his expertise to Aston Martin.

Ocon was too tough for him so he decided to race against Stroll instead.

More likely, is AM is offering a huge paycheck and Alonso knows he's never winning anything again so he's taking the money and running to the bank.

The only consistency that Ferrari has is really their relentless pursuit of incompetence. It’s been 14 years since their last championship and they haven’t got a clue what they’re doing. I daresay that even in 2007, it was McLaren losing the championship through inter team conflict than Ferrari besting McLaren. Gone are the Schumacher/Brawn/Todd days.

Lawrence Stroll & Co. invested $276m in new facilities with a brand new wind tunnel for the Aston Martin F1 team and it’s set to open in 2022. They would have the most state of the art facilities of all F1 teams. So maybe that’s what Alonso is banking on.

This literally makes no sense to me.

Alonso is in the middle of negotiations right now and wants another 2-year contract. The Alpine CEO, Laurent Rossi, doesn’t want to extend him for another 2-years and took up Alonso’s option for a single year instead. Rumors are that Rossi wanted to move Alonso to Alpine’s WEC team. I mean, up until last week, where was Alonso going to go? Vettel announces his retirement and Aston Martin swoops in and got another world champion in their car.

Alpine rolled the dice and it’ll be a big loss for Alpine. Sure, they’ll get fresh young talent in the car… and then what? Develop their car with Ocon and a rookie? Sure…… can’t wait to see how well that’s going to go.

Ocon was too tough for him so he decided to race against Stroll instead.

If you’re going by points, you seem to forget that Alpine’s reliability issues and poor strategy calls cost Alonso about 50 points throughout this season. Ocon a better driver than Alonso? Whatever helps you sleep at night.

I think it was Mark Webber who was once questioned about life after racing and why so many men stay in it past their prime. His answer was that you get used to the lifestyle with jet helicopters, private islands, and the general luxury existence, and this takes a lot of money. While racing a lot of it is paid for by the teams and F1, but once you exit you have to rely on your own resources to a great extent. So racers hang around and scoop up another $10-$15 million a year for five, seven extra years. No one thinks Alonso is ever going to be on the podium much, but he does bring knowledge and prestige to the game (just like Vettel did), that's what old man Stroll was looking for.

Now the question is who will takeover Latifi’s ride at Williams? Have Schumacher, Tsunoda and Zhou done enough to get retain their seats or will they be shown the door?

Schumacher is doing enough and bringing in enough money to retain his ride. Zhou also brings in a lot of money, so does Tsunoda.

They will be retained.

the Hulk will be taking a turn after break though…

I think Tsunoda and Zhou are also driving the cars above their limits. Schumacher has a good weekend when the car does. But his name and Ferrari sponsorship will keep him in the mix at least another season. I'd love to see Andretti buy one of the teams...Alfa R or Alpha T...or Haas.

So Ocon is going to be the lead driver for Alpine? That's going to end well.

Piastri has put out a statement saying that he will not be driving for Alpine in 2023. 🍿

This could be a really interesting silly season.

Thinking back they’ve had Kmag, Hulk, Sainz, Danny Ric, Alonso, this has to be the weakest pairing they’ve had since 2011, just as they’re meant to be taking a step up. Oscar better be on it from the jump or they’ll be fighting Alfa and Haas for scraps
