He’s still an absolute beast, I don’t see him going anywhere any time soon when he’s still that good.
I hope for a podium finish for him. It’s soo good to see him up front again!

Some of the grid positions were the result of the weather, Sunday is supposed to be mostly sunny with a 19 C temp. Expect things to settle down and revert to what we've previously seen.

There’s also one Ferrari at the back, and Perez way back after that qualifying so there’s a chance at least for Fernando to do well, the Alpine is very quick in a straight line which will make it hard to catch even with DRS on this track

Yup. I think Max will be dreading the first corner - it’s not like Fernando has anything to loose.

Big question is Russell going pass Hamilton in a straight fight?

MB did well today, finally. Maybe they've sorted things out. Never thought Alonso was ever going to get near a podium finish.

Not SUPER new news, but a little more confirmation perhaps in the whole Audi/Porsche thing...

I really hope this will not happen, EVER.
Why you may ask?

Quote from VW in 2019..

"Volkswagen will end its factory support of all programmes using internal combustion engines after implementing a motorsport strategy focused on electric mobility."

I always understood that to be JUST VW. Not everything else under the umbrella as well.

It’s everything under their VW umbrella (Ducati will eventually leave MotoGP as well). It’s a strategic rolling withdrawal to lessen the impact of all VAG teams leaving their respective sport.

I really hope this will not happen, EVER.

Given the context, I think “internal combustion engine” is specifically referring to “petrol/gasoline ICEs” that produces greenhouse gas emissions.

In the past couple of years, biofuels and hydrogen technology have become a big player in the future of fuels and this gives them the option when looking beyond electric engines. Because let’s face it, electric engines are great for road cars but are boring in motor sports (eg. Formula E). Porsche has already announced that they’re developing synthetic fuels for their lineup of cars (source).

There’s little detail about the 2026 F1 engine formula but rumors are that Audi/VW participated in the engine discussions. This tells me that if they’re committed to joining the F1 grid, the engine technology will benefit VAGs road cars while holding to their mission of a 0 emission standards.

I can’t find the article but will keep looking but I read somewhere that Audi/Porsche are interested in F1 if the direction F1 takes is towards further reducing emissions and how the new technology can used in road cars. They see F1 as a way of designing, testing and implementing new engine technology.

But I am pleased that there is new blood coming into F1 and with luck it will help shake things up.

It’s worth noting that Porsche is also investing heavily in synthetic fuels, not just for new cars but finding ways to keep old cars running on them for decades to come as their head of heritage has a key KPI or ensuring the vast majority of the 911 / 356 fleet remains drivable in perpetuity. Even if they do transition to fully electric soon, it’s likely they’ll be keeping 1 million or so old petrol cars on the road for decades and decades.

I do not see a date there, but it looks like Saturday's forecast to me.
