MB is usually at the sharp end of the spear when new technology or new designs are introduced. When hybrid drive systems were introduced they were so far ahead of everyone else it was stark, yet in 2022 they seem to be way behind the curve so far. Perhaps they can lift their game but it is odd they have been caught with their pants down this time.

So, Las Vegas 2023. Looks a rather boring circuit.

Turn 10 really doesn’t exist essentially making this an incredibly long “straight.”

As an event it’ll probably be cool but that’s a shocking track for racing purposes, more of a parade than a spectacle. That said, still drastically better than the last Las Vegas Grand Prix 🤮

That said since Netflix drive to survive I’ve had more mates in the US getting into F1 and with three races there in 2023 and 2 this year I’d expect that to increase and make F1 more popular there and by extension more popular outside Europe.

DTS seemed/seems to have done wonders for the sport in terms of obtaining new viewers.
I have been a long time F1 fan but have yet to watch beyond season 1 of the show lol.

I started going to the USGP in 2015. In 2015, I'd say the venue was 2/3 full. It didn't help that there was a massive rainout and the weather was horrible which probably kept a lot of the GA tickets away (great race btw). Every year since it's been a little more full until last year when the venue was freaking packed. I could barely walk around anywhere.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but it’s got to better than the old car park of ‘81.

My potential gripe will be the likelihood in future years of classic European circuits having to alternate years while the ‘cash cows’ of the Middle East keep their (downright dangerous, in the case of Saudi Arabia) races every year 🙁

Interesting shake up so far. Two round comparison now vs this time last year

Alpine back in blue livery from this week onwards throughout 2022, and Seb back in the Aston Martin too, apparently there are some significant changes to the circuit in Melbourne to improve overtaking so it will be interesting to see if that works

Wow, Merc in 2nd despite not winning anything as yet…
So, even if they are well off the pace, they are still doing well in the Constructors. Tells you something about their drivers & George-y doing well in the new car….

Sergio Perez really needs to pull up his socks…
He let the team down on many occasions last year 2nd half.
I find that he accepts his position rather quickly rather than charging or even late charging.
Pole setter finishing 4th! Ugh! He could have tried harder for 3rd — how badly do you want it Checo?? Apparently not badly enough….

So yeah, definitely stretched out in a couple of places. Most noticeably "old" turn 9 and 10 being eliminated.

Looking forward to the FP1 and FP2 today. With the track modifications and the new surface some of the support classes were up to 10 sec a lap faster. Should mean F1 is even quicker around Albert Park. Weather looks good for all sessions this weekend.

Please keep us posted especially with pictures! It's too early in the morning for me to catch it live, but I'll be using the F1.com subscription app (less than £1 per race 😀 ) get the replay of commentary & timing screens with breakfast.

Does anyone know if the ESPN app does replays?
I usually catch the races live (if I can), so I've never tried to watch a replay.

It does. I’ve caught a few races on replay last year and the year before

Cool, thanks for the info!
That's the way I have been watching the races for the last couple of seasons.
Though I wish I had a better way. I have no cable, so technically no ESPN.
But somehow, at one point, I was able to watch live races on my phone using the ESPN app.
Can't do it on the apple TV though says my subscription doesn't blah blah blah...
So I just AirPlay from my phone to the AppleTV. Which works just fine, but I am convinced that one day it will realize that I don't actually have a subscription and then I will be SOL.

i'm sure you know about the F1 app for ios & android?
they have 2 levels of subscription with the lower one being $26 & change for 1 year. You can watch the replay 2 days after the race -- that's the agreement usa has with f1.

In the UK the replay can be invoked anytime during or after the race, you just wind the time back to the start. You folks are being short-changed.

huh?? old turn 9 & 10 eliminated??
no, it's not elimnated -- it's become 11 & 12 now.
they added a new turn now called 9 & 10. And, the new turn 15 is gentler than the old turn 13. I see the new turn 15 leads into the pit lane....

yeah, speeds have increased.
How can they accomplish this when the track layout is essentially the same?
I'm asking....
do they use a different surface material that gives better grip?
