The Mercedes looks so weak right now, and it looks like its engine as much as aero which is such a surprising thing to see.

Mercedes had horrible engine longevity last year. I bet they took it back a notch this year

Loved Checo's comment afterwards: "If I drive a thousand laps, I don't think I could do another one like that." (sic)

I dont like this track...high speed with so small space for any errors. Yes it is F1 but In my 25 years of watching it this is one of worst tracks for me...

And go Ferrari! 😀

I wouldn’t mind the high speed and walls were it not for the visibility and safety issues, they improved it from last year but there are still so many blind corners and areas where SAFER barriers should have been installed like where Mick went off as Ocon nearly went off into that exact same wall off the exact same kerb.

Bueno suerte Checo!!!!

while I’m a Hamilton and McLaren fan gotta love Ferrari and Checo!

good run for mr Saturday in 6th, and Bottas’s continued proving he’s better then most people gave him credit for.

Bottas really picked the best time to get fired and sent to a Ferrari team, he must be having a good chuckle each time he beats a Mercedes

This really is pretty messed up, a fire Marshall who could have drivers’ lives in his hands, especially at this crash prone circuit says online that he wants to see Lewis burn to death in a fire similar to Romain Grosjean’s in Bahrain, calls him a dog for calling out Saudi Arabia’s human rights record and thinks he deserves to die for speaking up.

Thankfully the guy he gone now but he might not be the only one given Lewis ran a rainbow helmet last year

It is okay not to like a driver but to hope he experiences a fiery death is just wrong.

Hmmm, OK. There have been better Formula Ford Festival finals though. And far better heats.

I do miss Grands Prix at Brands Hatch 🙁

It was nice to see good clean racing between LEC and VER during the last few laps. They are clearly the top two drivers this season followed by SAI and PER. I was also happy to see NOR in the points today.

Definitely some good racing with the new cars. Now, if they made them drive them with a manual transmission that would be awesome. I miss the days when overtaking often relied on your skill to properly brake and downshift using two feet and three pedals.

It would cool, as time progresses F1 will have to choose between either becoming effectively Formula E, or going the opposite direction and making it a gladiator battle of driver skill in more old school cars, I kind of hope for the later.

W12 engines, non-synchronized manual transmissions, metallic brakes and passenger car tires would be a good start for the Mad Max era F1. 😁

I wonder if the Mercedes team had suspicions they might struggle this year (or at least lose the advantage they had) and if that somehow played into Lewis' silence and rumours of a possible retirement...?

I think they knew the car had issues but wanted to see if the other teams were also going to struggle. If all the other teams struggled then the Mercedes issues wouldn't be so glaring but RB and Ferrari seems to have their performance issues sorted out.

It goes beyond just those teams (Ferrari/Mercedes). Everyone with a Ferrari PU seems to be more competitive than the teams with a Merc PU. Granted it’s just race #2 but McLaren, Aston Martin, and Williams are 8, 9, 10 in constructors standings. Mercedes is only Second because RB double DNF in race one. Teams with Ferrari PU make up 1, 5, and 6.

Realistically, Mercedes only cares about Ferrari and RB. Even a shitbox Mercedes would still finish no worse than 3rd this year barring a bunch of DNF's.

Lewis clearly had his own issues during qualifying, as Russell did okay. We will all benefit when/if Mercedes get it sorted to make it a proper 3 team slug-fest!
