Well, this will make a good episode of Drive to Survive next season. 🍿
The decisions from race control and the stewards have been inconsistent this year to the detriment of all of the drivers. The FIA needs to tighten things up here.
Leaving Hamilton out there slithering around on 40 lap old knackered tyres was not clever, regardless of maintaining track position. Mercedes were given the opportunity to do the smart move twice and blew it twice. Then team even asked LH what tyre he wanted if there was a safety car so they can't say it was a surprise when there was one.
This was the right result on that basis alone. RB outthought Mercedes.
How could they pit Hamilton? Redbull would have kept Max out on track, Ham loses track position, and likely the race ends under the safety car. If Massi wanted to finish with a race he should have red flagged it to at least give Ham a fighting chance. That was fish in a barrel for Max.
That's it. Result stands.
What would 2021 season be without with a bit of controversy? 🙄
Congratulations to Max on his first World Championship. He drove well all season and fought hard (maybe too hard for some).
Lewis should be commended for his tenacity season. When it looked like the title was all but wrapped up for Max after the Mexican GP; Lewis roared back and took the title battle to the finale.
Goodbye to Kimi. I hope he gets to enjoy time with his family and enjoy life after F1. He was always entertaining.
Farewell to Honda. Their fourth journey into F1 started off miserably with McLaren but they bounced back to produce a competitive engine. While I hate to see them leave again, I'm glad to see them go out on a high note.
What engine are RB using next season? Mercedes?
