Gravel traps need to be brought back. Let the rocks decide world championships.

Of course they did and protest might be heard but ultimately the results won’t be overturned. It might lead to some new regulations on SC lapped vs unlapped cars though.

WTAF

look Lewis had about 8 car lengths after he was pushed off track then gave back the advantage to about 1.5 car lengths. This can be argued but clearly Lewis had the pace, for the rest of the race.

Max got 2 huge benifits from both the first virtual safety car and the start of the second. As he could put for tires and there was no way Lewis could for either.

to make a call to allow some lapped traffic through?

Masi will not have that job next year he has successfully made the craziest choice I’ve seen in F1 and pissed everyone off.

yeah it would have sucked that the season would end under a safety car but it wouldn’t have affected the the outcome of the race. It only affected the outcome of first and second not the rest of the pack at all. First and second where decided and nothing changed in 3rd and back in either case.

I fail to understand the choice at all.

Well, this will make a good episode of Drive to Survive next season. 🍿

The decisions from race control and the stewards have been inconsistent this year to the detriment of all of the drivers. The FIA needs to tighten things up here.

I think this is something we can all agree on. I also do not think it is just because we can hear the radio conversations now when we could not in the past. Masi is no Charlie Whiting.

Perhaps Jenson, Weber, Barrichello or Masa to Race Director? All are considered amazing drivers who were aggressive but fair and very well respected by all. IMHO Jenson or Masa make by far the most sense.

Besides all the controversy of the race director and the incosistency all year, this was the most amazig season in quite some time. Exciting till the last lap of the season!

Leaving Hamilton out there slithering around on 40 lap old knackered tyres was not clever, regardless of maintaining track position. Mercedes were given the opportunity to do the smart move twice and blew it twice. The team even asked LH what tyre he wanted if there was a safety car so they can't say it was a surprise when there was one.

This was the right result on that basis alone. RB outthought Mercedes.

How could they pit Hamilton? Redbull would have kept Max out on track, Ham loses track position, and likely the race ends under the safety car. If Massi wanted to finish with a race he should have red flagged it to at least give Ham a fighting chance. That was fish in a barrel for Max.

There was no reason for a red flag: the wall was not damaged and did not required any repair.

Now, I am sure they would have shown it it if they thought they could not resume the race. No way they would have let the championship battle ends behind a Safety Car: Mercedes should have known this.

They had the opportunity to pit him when his hard tyres started to go off after ~20 laps. He was clearly faster when he had healthy tyres so the strategy of leaving him out there in front and hoping for the best was found to be hopelessly optimistic. Stupid even in hindsight. Had they put him on the brand new soft rubber waiting for him with 10-15 laps to go I wouldn't have bet against him getting past MV or whoever was in front of him. The team threw it all away and Hamilton knows it, hence his increasingly frustrated radio calls.

ps Wasn't Perez amazing. Got his elbows out but drove very fairly and literally took one for the team.

That's it. Result stands.

Yes and the right call, no matter what team you support you cannot have a situation whereby the decision made at the time of the race is changed in an office afterwards. Max did nothing wrong he simply took advantage of the situation he found himself in, how can that decision be changed post race?

Sure the whole race director, stewards, standards and consistency issues across the season needs to be addressed, equally the constant whinging by the teams to the stewards / race director needs to stop. Maybe we should go back to the days of no communication between team in the pits and the car and the driver. The team designs and builds the car, the driver drives it, not some techie in an office back at base.

F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport, this season has shown it to be anything but.

Congratulations to Max, enjoy a celebratory drink or two after getting your first World Championship, I look forward to watching you against Lewis and George next season, in some good close racing just without the off track garbage that has hampered this years championship.

And now unsurprisingly we have the appeal to the result of the failed appeal from the three pointed star..

Mercedes - I know that you as a team are gutted that you lost today but Max crossed the line first, therefore he won. The decision of the stewards cannot be overturned and the result changed, what has Max done wrong? Nothing.

It it a lousy decision I agree, but you race to to the flag and on this occasion Max got there first, how do you unwind time, reset the race, if you do this for the last few laps then you open the door for every decision over the course of the season to be reviewed and that would also be wrong.

Yes Mercedes it hurts to lose but you will come back stronger in March 2022 to strive to get that drivers title back, congratulations on winning the Constructors championship again. Now is the time to close the door on 2021 and look forward to the new season with a new driver team in Lewis and George.

What would 2021 season be without with a bit of controversy? 🙄

Congratulations to Max on his first World Championship. He drove well all season and fought hard (maybe too hard for some).

Lewis should be commended for his tenacity season. When it looked like the title was all but wrapped up for Max after the Mexican GP; Lewis roared back and took the title battle to the finale.

Goodbye to Kimi. I hope he gets to enjoy time with his family and enjoy life after F1. He was always entertaining.

Farewell to Honda. Their fourth journey into F1 started off miserably with McLaren but they bounced back to produce a competitive engine. While I hate to see them leave again, I'm glad to see them go out on a high note.

First questionable ruling went to Ham. Second questionable ruling went to Max.

Officially it will be "Red Bull Powertrains" but the engines will still be assembled and supported by Honda.

Mercedes appeal means nothing. They already handed out the Max WDC 2021 T shirts.
