51% of Redbull is Thai owned. Albon races under the Thai flag. This may have some influence on the decision.
Oh I didn't know that, interesting🙄

I must laugh at all the positive reviews Russell has gotten. This last race has proven 2.5 things.
1. Mercedes has the best car
2. Vateri is a secretary and is a second rate driver at best.
2.5. Lewis Hamilton has needs to prove himself and get a better teammate.

Lewis had 3 different WC's as teammates throughout his career and has an overall winning record against them.
Fernando 1-0
Jenson 2-1
Nico 3-1

He's already proven himself at this point.

No1 was no secret. Although Bottas had a terrible day, yet again circumstances made him look much worse than he was.
The pit stop mix up left him on cold and worn hard tyres. He was a sitting duck, there was no way he was going to get them to work(or so he would have us believe). So the only mistake was a poor get away. Sub par but not second rate.
Point 3 has been well made above. Hamilton has nothing to prove now. Just records to break.

Please.
Hamilton was a McLaren driver from the get go.
It is spelled Jensen, and was only world champion because of a loophole his team found.
Nico only proves my point that Lewis isn’t that good.

Jenson won because he could drive with a style as smooth as silk on tyres that went off like milk left out of the fridge.
Nico won only because Lewis had a bad run of reliability.
And beating Alonso in his rookie year always seems to be ignored by the haters

Jenson and Massa are great drivers. By the end of the season when everyone had the double diffuser they where still winning. Also that team is now called Mercedes... lots of talent there.

your reasoning could also show Lewis is only as good as his car...

I disagree.

Lewis and Nico both retired in Spain. Lewis retired in Malaysia. Nico won by 25 points and 20 points for a win? Please explain how reliability cost Lewis the WDC.

and it seems that Button lost his “smooth as silk” driving after the other teams figured out the diffuser. He didn’t win any race from GBR on.

It seems my math above was incorrect, Nico won by 5 points and 25 points for a win. Lewis may have won if not for Malaysia, but certainly did not help himself pointswise by eliminating the team in Spain.

Hamilton suffered at least four instances of debilitating unreliability in 2016. Not all in the races.

An ERS failure at the start of qualifying in China, relegating him to 22nd on the grid. He finished seventh.
An ERS failure during Q3 in Russia, placing HAM 10th on the grid. He finished second.
An engine mode issue during the European GP. He finished fifth.
An engine blow-out in Malaysia which cost him an almost-certain victory.

It could be reasonably argued that it denied him at least 40 points - 12 in China, when Mercedes were a class above the rest, 25 in Sepang, and ten in Belgium when Hamilton was relegated to the back of the grid after Mercedes put in fresh power units to compensate for his early-season failures.

He sexually assaulted a woman while driving and posted it on SM. Of course since his dad is rich Haas are just going to condemn it and take his money.

For all the hate Stroll gets, at least he isn't an a-hole.

HAAS sure knows how to pick 'em.
Who remembers Santino Ferrucci?

Mazepin has a history of questionable behavior. He’ll be pushing it as long as he can get away with it and has daddy’s F-Off money.

As for Ferrucci, he has been fairly well behaved in the IndyCar world. Maybe he has grown-up and matured. We’ll see if that changes if he goes to NASCAR.

Is anyone here a Dan Ticktum fan? ::stirthepot::

Definitely not the sort of driver I want to see on the grid.

1 & 3. Your argument does have some legs, although I really don't think Hamilton has to prove himself. 7 WC titles is an Achievement - best car or not. Ultimately you need the best car/team behind you to win a championship, I think history has proven that and Russell being instantly competitive when put in the seat does add credence to that arguement.
2. Bottas is a good, 2nd seat driver. Doing exactly what his team want him to do.

Glad to see Kimi was able to use his experience fighting Finnish forest fires to use today. Now just give him a rake.

I don’t think anybody would dispute the Williams FW17 was a better car than the Benetton B195 was. I think Williams let their ego get the better of them, thinking their car was unbeatable. I do not think such things are possible nowadays because the rules kind of dictate everybody run a similar tire strategy and lack of refueling eliminates another variable.
