"Missed Apex understands that Horner and Marko are in Austria to meet with Mateschitz. the aim of the meeting is to get a sign off on the finance to buy the Honda engine IP Talk of it being badged as Mugen who are already based in Milton Keynes"

A Mugen comeback would be cool!

I doubt it with the 2021 engine specs changing again... or at least a 2022-23 change with a massive change to the way the electric power units work, and a possible rpm increase of 3-4k..

My guess is that they will end up with Ferrari motors. While financially Renaults needs another team on the motor to reduce costs, that bridge is still on fire lol. There is no way that MB will sell to RB right now there is zero upside for them to do it, unless Adrian Newey moves to MB lol.

No PU change until 2025 or 2026 (I cannot remember the date, they nearly delay it each month...). Until then, they will need to have 1 engine spec for the whole season, with the usual expections for reliability fixes.
As Honda will go out after 2021 and they already said they will push until the end, I suspect the idea is not to just produce the 2021 engine then run it... meaning RB could have a near-ready engine for 2022 too.

It would make totally sense for them to buy Honda IP... Well, technically I think they will buy the Milton Keynes Honda factory, and the factory will have the ownership of the IP (if not already the case). It is usually how it works in F1 and motorsport in general: the IP is linked to the factory, not to the owner. So, if one day (let's say 2026) Honda wants to come back again, they will only have to buy back the factory from RBT

Well it sure will be interesting to see how it all plays out...
What has happened off the grid in the last couple years ends up being more interesting than the actual races themselves.

While looking for a JH picture for another thread I came across this one.
You can't get cooler than this guy right here.

Could you imagine ANYONE on the grid doing this now? I think the closest we'd have currently would be Danny Ric.
And yeah probably Kimi...maybe more so...

Renault for both appears more likely as if RBR go for Ferrari then AT would need to go with Renault due to current regulations on maximum teams to which a manufacturer can supply.
Christian Horner has specifically said different engines for both teams is not happening, however he also stated that Gasly would continue with RBR so who knows☺

I will say, being a big Honda fan, the news of them leaving definitely popped a big balloon of enthusiasm for F1.

With that being said, it would be cool if Red Bull did take over the Honda engine IP.

On the other hand, I believe the bigger issue is keeping Verstappen after 2021 with his exit clause and the very possible Mercedes seat being available for 2022.

Could be a Russel and Verstappen link for Mercedes. How crazy would that be?

What do you think of this list?

1) Juan Manual Fangio
2) Jim Clark
3) Alain Prost
4) Jackie Stewart
5) Michael Schumacher
6) Lewis Hamilton
7) Alberto Ascari
8) Ayrton Senna

That's The Economist's statistical analysis of the best F1 drivers 1950 to 2020. They looked at the relative strengths of the driver and the car, ranking by the performance of others in the same car and then performances in different cars.

One of their graphs is available without a sign-in

The whole article is in the paper edition (October 17th-23rd 2020) or free online with limited access to a few articles a month through https://www.economist.com/graphic-d...re-the-true-drivers-of-success-in-motor-sport

::stirthepot:: ::stirthepot:: ::stirthepot:: I think it's a good ranking, although I would disallow two of the list for their dubious tactics ::stirthepot:: ::stirthepot:: ::stirthepot::

Not too bad regarding the names, but from the graph it seems they take into account only championship year for each driver... is that right?
And from the stacked bar lengths, it seems they consider Hamilton current job as difficult as Prost vs Senna during Mclaren the McLaren era (as they attribute the same amount on "due to the driver"). Honestly... we all know that since Bottas joined he only had to cruise back the car to the checkered flag... And apparently Hakkinen titles are all due to the car...

Well this is news.

Hulkenberg? Perez? Who?

It will probably be some combination Schumacher, Mazepin and Perez. It all comes down to money which both Mazepin and Perez a lot of access to.

While HAAS could be a likely candidate for Shumacher, Alfa could be as well.
Perez is definitely attractive to (most) everyone since he comes with money.
I could see HAAS definitely wanting to snag him since Steiner straight up said they were looking for a driver that could bring in some $$$.

Called it.

I could see Perez for the Slim $ and a development driver to try and engage with the bigger teams as a feeder, or support their own future requirements. Hopefully this is the turning point for the team.

Not with Haas running the team. He's trying to run it on the cheap which gets you nowhere in today's F1.

I don't really know too much about the upcoming budget cap but perhaps that will help?
