They want you to buy the upgraded version......classic marketing.
It almost seems like Omega thinks they’re a for profit company as opposed to a religious order. How dare they?!

Great watch! Had a chat with my wallet, though, and it’s not opening...

I think its pretty while not being especially revolutionary in the new look. I won't be adding one for at least three years as I have the Snoopy coming this year and I fully intend to be a lucky recipient of a Speedy Tuesday 3 tenth anniversary edition in 2022.

care to comment RJ ?

I hope you're right!

Hate to say it but in the live photos, I like the newly-sized "Speedmaster Professional" text far less. Can't put my finger on exactly why but it just looks wrong :/

I said the same, almost word for word on another forum yesterday. The new text is a step backwards. The text and bracelet are more reminiscent of the 1988 Speedy Reduced than 105.012-65. See what I mean?

I absolutely do, now that you point it out. I do like the new bracelet though (at least as an improvement over the terrible current one) and I actually think that the Reduced has a better proportion between Omega, Speedmaster, and Automatic.

Not many have talked about the change in the minute track. The track is less dense now with larger space between the second markers. I think this is one of the things that differentiates it the most from the previous version at first glance (besides the bracelet).

Anyone know the reason for this? It was not to make it more like the 105.012, right? That didn’t have the “new” minute track.

The reason is that since 1969 and the introduction of the higher beat 861, the speedy hasn't hit any of the marks with the chrono hand other than the full second since the movement ticks at 6 beats per second and there were 4 intermediate marks only (which worked fine for the 321 as it ran at 5 ticks per sec). Now with 2 intermediate marks the hand hits the mark every other tick. They started doing this on the LEs with 1861s a few years ago. Look at the ST or Snoopy for instance. The FOIS too has the sparser and more accurate mark pattern.

Very clear (and definitive!) info, thank you.

I wonder if you might give me a similar hand-holding through the new cal.321 (nay, .321) dial/beat “situation”?

[Edit: assuming the new cal.321 is identical to the old, I note that my cal.321 has 4 intermediate marks - so unless you educate me otherwise assume it should hit all marks as did the old cal.321/dial combo; and to the naked eye that seems the case. It even seems to hit the intermediate-intermediate marks, except for th slight oddity of the lume taking the place of 3 such marks)

The new 321 has 5 beats per sec as it always did, so the original layout with 4 intermediate marks works just fine. It hits a mark every tick.

Ahh makes sense. Thanks for explaining 😀

The one thing many people hate about the prior version is the challenge of getting a good fit.

The article says "Everything You Need To Know..." but that tidbit was missing.

It looks like the links are shorter, so a good fit should be easier.

Is that true?

Just wanted to add again that it is a real disappointment that they did not upgrade to a ceramic bezel. Otherwise, love it.
And I'm happy it remained steel. I'm not a fan of ceramic and the look.

It's not an improvement.

It’s not steel either, at least the black insert isn’t.

The white gold Canopus is beautiful... but that price. Having a hard time understanding why it is more than a full white gold Daytona? They yellow gold comes in at about the same price as a full yellow gold Daytona. Both seem a little high considering the ss options are the opposite with the Speedmaster being the less expensive option.

There is a decent explanation given at the end of the podcast on the fratello website. Price of the Canopus gold watch seemed to be explained by price of raw materials used in the gold composition and potentially some additional tooling and machining time required to produce the it.

Thank you! Will check that out.
