I've been to Munich a couple of times. LOVE that town. I'd go see the Hofbrau, maybe stay for a touristy beer if the band is playing, but I wouldn't eat there. My all-time favorite meal in Munich, if not anywhere in the world, is Haxnbauer, just a block off the Marienplatz. Get the knuckle! I second the recommendation for the Deutsches Museum, fantastic aviation displays.

My wife and I will be attending Oktoberfest for the first time next week and this thread has been helpful. I'm looking forward to breaking in my lederhosen.
We will be visiting Innsbruck as well and need a good restaurant for a group of 8 - 10 people. Any suggestions?

Eating at the Hofbraeuhaus? Oh Dear. That is only for American Tourists. Weisses Braeuhaus around the corner only. Or the Augustiner Keller or outside , the Augustiner Beergarden. All around the Main railway station in the center. That's were locals go....
Hey, go easy on the American tourist stereotype, please. Many of us are well traveled and educated, enjoy fine dining, and don't wear tracksuits and white sneakers either at home or abroad.
