Hello OF — I hope it’s OK to ask this question on this thread. I am interested in a lovely dress Eternamatic offered for PS right now. (I don’t want to include images without the permission of the owner, although he did encourage me to ask you all this question, as he did not have the answer.). The watch in question, which seems to be from 1960 (judging by the serial number on the movement) looks like it is gold-capped. My understanding is that gold-capped Omegas, the only type of watch I know a little about, are steel capped with a layer of real, solid gold, which is entirely different from gold plate or gold filled. Is this also the case with Eterna? I have looked on Google at other Eternamatic examples, and also on Chrono24, but descriptions are inconsistent. Many refer to gold capped examples as being gold plated, for example. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi everyone,

Yes, I encouraged loveslemon71 to ask about this (my) watch publicly. I don't know much about it and would love to learn
more-

Cheers,
Todd

It would help if you could post photos; front, back, sides, caseback etc

Well, I’m not an expert but it looks like I’d expect a gold capped watch to look and it’s a very pretty timepiece.

The terms are not brand-specific, and apply to any watch.
The piece in question is indeed lovely, and I already "liked" it when it went on sale, and I hope you can get it. But FWIW I do have a sorta feeling it should be the seller taking the lead on clarifying eith the forum what the watch really is, otherwise we just get into potential tangles!

You’re right, I should be taking the lead here. But I have not been able to find more info as of yet. Will keep digging-
Cheers

No worries. You should actually be able to tell by visual inspection - GC is a orders of magnitude thicker than GP. Either way, it's a beaut.

To me, and I may be wrong, this looks like gold cap. I don't think this can be done with plating.

I had a goldsmith adjust the tricky and full length Gay Frères to fit my small wrist. He ended up removing four links. What a gem.

Do you have close-up of waffle dial? 🥰
