Minor Brand?! That sounds like a taunt. Or an invitation...

That may be the best looking Eterna I have seen.

What a lovely pieces in this thread! Lately I’m discovering the variety of dresswatches and Kontiki’s. Currently I own this Centenaire Chronometer. I absolutely love the hour markers.
Beautiful 😉 What is the movement powering Centenaire?

Here is one it took me some time to track down. The movement is (apparently) standard Cal 1422, factory-tuned to chronometer standard.

It dates I think to 1958, but the case, which I find very impressive, is from 1956: I think it might even be the type illustrated in Brunner's Eterna - Pionniers de l'Art Horloger.

The play of light on the dial is a joy...

...as is the sheer presence on the wrist, without appearing to try too hard.

The casemaker was Serva SA, who of course made so many for Constellations. Instead of perlage, we have a nice frosty finish.

If any experts can identify the marks on two of the lugs, they definitely have better eyesight than me, as well as knowledge. There is no Schild crest on the caseback (discussed elsewhere), but hey, I'm totally fine with that.

Sorry to go on and on - but you may have gathered, I really like this watch! Keeper for one of my boys, I reckon. 🙄

Woah that’s a stunning piece! Been looking for a clean, 18k Centenaire as well. Looks like you hit the Centenaire jackpot!

Apologies for missing this first time - that reading is confirmed! 👍

Thanks for this awesome thread and the external resources referenced in here, through which I've learnt a lot about this underrated brand. Plenty of watch brands and beautiful watches out there, but I have to get hooked by the history as well to buy a watch, and Eterna definitely has history on its side. Amazing how a watch company that has been so influential for the entire industry has been sidelined in terms of broader awareness.

So I decided to join the family. Here's my poor attempt at copying @nickgr 😀. My example is not as nice as his (and neither is the strap). Plexi problably needs replacement given the scratches, but the case is sharp and the dial clean. Love the thin and lean design and how the logo reflects the light depending on the angle. And as plus, my wife who's been kind of wary of my new hobby likes it a lot and already called dibs in case I'd ever want to part with it 😁. But I think it will remain my daily beater for quite a while.

My personal Eterna story is to be continued.

Hi all!
I recently purchased this watch on eBay without knowing much about it apart that it looked cool and at a right price 😀 :

it was listed as a 40’ watch but according to the serial chart I found, it would more be from the mid 50s..
I was surprised though that it doesn’t glow at all under uv light...As the dial looked radium burnt, I really expected it to...
Is it relumed? A redial? Any idea of what the reference is?

thanks? 👍

I have been kicking around this idea for a while: We see successful relaunches of many older brands like Aquastar, Yema, Nivada Grenchen and more, while Eterna just sits on a vast back catalog of wonderful designs yet insists on putting out monstrous 44mm cartoons. How much do we think it would cost to purchase the rights to the brand from its current owners?
Then we could go about properly reissuing the original Kontiki, Kontiki 20, Super Kontiki and all of these lovely dress models while also updating them to a much more handsome standard than the current lineup.

Wow! What a find. I think it looks right. Do note the dial and hands contain radium lume, so be careful opening the watch.

Thanks! I’m surprised I don’t get a glow under UV light though...😕. Looking with a loupe, the application of the lume is very clean and it looks a little retracted as I would have expected. If it’s relumed, it took a lot of time and skill and I would not see the point in a watch of that value...
I’d need a Geiger counter to be sure

any idea what ref it is?

thanks again!

It makes sense for the lume to not glow anymore. The radium is not the luminous component, instead it is a reactant. Over time, the radium will have degraded the other component(s) so there is no glow remaining.

By the way: DIBS! lol.

Ok, Thanks, I understand. I guess it all depends of the phosphorescent material used at that time...As the one used by Rolex in that time still reacts to uv, I assumed it would be the same but I guess not. 😀
Thanks for the info, a very nice watch anyway! I’ll try digging further to find the ref and learn more about it!

What a beautiful idea! I think though you would find it very difficult indeed to get any relevant financial information with which to consider a bid properly from Citychamp (or Porsche, for that matter) unless you put serious money on the table upfront, and they had a strategic wish to sell. The latter I doubt, as they seem to be building a brand portfolio of which Eterna is only a small part, and it might even entail unacceptable loss of face. I imagine the way in would be discreetly to persuade them into a profitable design-driven joint venture. From my reading of a recent neighbouring thread, I wonder whether @mzinski, @Nobel Prize or @Foo2rama would have any advice for you?
