·So, beans on toast?
You just open up a can of beans, apply heat, then dump it on a piece of toast?
Interesting...
Is there a preferred type of beans or toast?

Here we prefer Clark beans, founded in Montreal and Quebec owned today…
My favourite is the standard beans in tomato sauce. I don’t put then on my toast (no soggy toast for me thanks) but I eat them with toast certainly.
The most stressful part of moving away from England was locating the best alternative beans producer (Heinz is extremely expensive here and Branston is not sold). Thankfully they do sell cheddar though or I would probably have had to leave.
A proper steak and kidney pudding (with a steamed suet crust) is a thing of beauty
While studying in England I really did take to beans over toast. As a broke college student that hit the spot.
Had a friend from Cornwall who introduced me to a proper pasty. Delish.
Agreed. But in my recent (2026) experience is less and less available from fish & chip shops in the south of England.
That's beans on toast. Honestly I've never heard them described as beans over toast.
It’s only haute cuisine if it has cheese on top…
Cheese on top of beans with toast is not something I had ever considered...might have to try. I assume a sharp cheddar would be most approriate/traditional?
It seems the conversation has reached the peak of British Haute Cuisine. Canned beans and toast.
