Listen...to each his/her/it’s own as said already. But let’s have real talk. It’s not about condition at all. Gotta work off same facts....

quick looks ....

#dented

#who’sGonnaRelumeThatHand?

#Patina’dDoN ???

And the sold, sold at approx £7+ or so....

I don’t know what the magic sauce is. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Agree on that much

+1 👍

It's interesting to see that the bezel with the somewhat repressed insert looks similar to the one of my watch, I posted a picture of.

Who's gonna relume the hand? I can give you 3-4 names right now who could do it perfectly. "Patina'd" DON? Take a Q-tip to whatever that is and it'll be gone in five seconds. Yeah, there's a dent in the bezel and if it really bothers you, upgrade the DON down the line.

Differing opinions are fine. I've said I think it's better condition and I trust my judgment. You two obviously think you know better than me, which, hell, may be true.

I mean...it's not, but it may be. 😜

The magic sauce? For me it's this one:

Ok, I am ready to be “educated”…

when I see this watch, I think “service hands”…………
…………but when I see the watch on eBay from OP... I think “wounded... but all original” (and certainly a good fixer upper for those who have the parts available and/or have the qualified watchmaker available handily).

Am I alone?? 😕

as always..... beauty is in the eye of the beholder.......for the right price you can still sell in these testing times. i try to stay away from commenting on still running auctions. these " outings " are good for the seller, not so for the enthusiasts. looks like completely bogus descriptions tickle the price upwards ( "black face, multiple hands, all hands for instrument are present...... ") completely scratched crystal; no chance for evaluation. I`m listing an 2998-5 today , took a while to find the right original Omega glass with the big chrome ring. not cheap either..... Looks like i`m an idiot; should have chucked the empty case in the clothes dryer for a few hours and beat it up with the old generic crystal completely scratched and everybody would have drooled over the "BARN FIND" ; whatever that means. strange times..... keep safe out there. kind regards. achim

Exactly....read from way back comment and for sale FS listings here.

Now....Omega Forums essentially is where many (if not most) already have EWs.... commenters basically ‘scare’ new buyers away with prima dona type comments. case in point..:: diamond in the ruff on eBay in this thread...when it’s really the hunt more at play,,,C’mon guys ... we love the hunt eh?

Back in the day, many of the items FS Here would be snapped up. except for price perhaps...most listings. So engage sellers to negotiation in Private Messages ie PM ... But those who have EWs ... snipe behind the scenes. And don’t fuss about this joint. This is a fact. .... Or simply some snipe out in the open. Either way....the sniping is .... Unsavory. Stop

A dastardly looking EW sold here at £7k+ , real talk, should not even be listed here. But someone was thinking .... I get a case and movement for 7000+ £. Quite the deal ... 🙁

The times are a changing!!

everyone got an opinion.....biology.

can we bring back a dose of sanity. Please

If you don’t mind Achim, I would like to discuss this post of yours:

- first, I think we are here comparing “apples” (I.e., true unrestored, “barn found” watches) and “oranges” (I.e., prepared watches... in the proper sense of the term: relumed hand by an expert, period correct crystal with retention ring, etc.). From what I understand, some collectors prefer the former while other prefer the latter. This is similar in the car world with different categories in concours for the “restored” and “unrestored” vehicles.
BTW, Of course, EVERYBODY is dreaming of coming across a NOS piece.... but that is another topic all together (and likely a stratospheric price bracket too).
- I know for a fact that because of my relative aversion for “risk”, combined to my still limited knowledge of vintage watches, I would only be able to go after “oranges” (per my description above) FROM REPUTABLE SELLERS because, as you mentioned, sourcing some of these period-correct parts is not easy, and having a “guy” who can properly relume hands is also not readily available to all of us.
So, at the end of the day, I am sure (and hoping) that you get also rewarded for the time and effort YOU put in making sure that the watch is right (and I would say that it wouldn’t hurt to keep the original parts that were replaced) AND for your reputation of being someone who does not create Franckenwatches.

So, yes, the beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder and there is a market for “apples” and “oranges”. 🥰

Yes, some people will always spend a bunch load of $$$ if they don’t have the knowledge and/or senses... and some others, just have to make some mistakes to learn (has happened to many around here, I am sure)... and that is all fine, isn’t it?

....but, no, you are certainly not an idiot, just a passionate guy with great ethics who does the “right thing”. This is why we value you and your contribution so much, and we sure hope that you don’t lose the faith in this hobby and the community!! 👍

I certainly know how much I owe you and other experts around here for educating us, sharing your wealth of knowledge with us and for helping us make an informed decision so that we can cut through the “marketing linguo” of the shady sellers.

Finally... what about this CK2998-5?!?? 😁

Until I resigned myself to take a deep dive into any watch I wanted to buy, and also learned that I could ask questions by PM of true experts, I also bought some prepared watches from "reputable sellers". Unfortunately, later on, when I became more knowledgeable, I found that many of them had been prepared to be frankensteins.

Thank you Dan. This is an amazing advice! And it allows me to thank @gemini4 again for enabling me to purchase a great vintage watch a while ago!! 👍

My guess is that if the buyer of this watch fixes the issues and then tries to relist it they would get less than what this is going to sell for. People (myself included) sure love the grime and wrist cheese

I did?? Hard to recall fun, normal activities in these trying times. Here are a few pics of a 105.003-65 7912/6 I was fortunate to source a few years ago. It’s my favorite “Ed”
