Hi Omega expert, should i expect any radium presence when checking the 105.003-63 ed-white with geinger counter reading? I know dial is marked with Tritium but during those year, transition was just being implemented. Would there be any contaminations? Anyone own 63/64 and has checked it? Thanks.

No Ed White has Radium lume. They all had Tritium. The last straight lug Speedy with Radium would be at the end of the 2998 series. 2998-61 or -62 perhaps. Note many Omega watches were manufactured a year or more after their iteration code. The Ed -63 you refer to for instance was likely produced in 1964 or even 1965. Check the serial at Ilovemyspeedmaster.com and you’ll see what I mean. Radium was binned around 1962 at the latest.

There was a transition period where Omega changed to Tritium lume across the range but used no T marks for about a year (roughly 1962-‘63). You never see T’s on a Radium dial.

Depending on how good your detector is, Tritium lume may still show above background since it will still have about 1/16 to 1/32 the activity of when new. That said the beta from Tritium is not powerful and hard to detect.
