Does your moonwatch bracelet scratch and ding easy?

I understand what everyone is saying and frankly, I am sure you might have all gone through the same thing for your first 'real' luxury watch. While it does not make it any easier for now, it will eventually pass. At the end of the day, it would have been nice for the watch to be a bit more durable... Good thing I did not start my collection with a more expensive watch... Would probably jump out the window by now... lol

Durable? If you want a watch that is scratch resistant (not scratch proof), check out the modern high tech ceramic watches made by Rado. If you had bought a new car and scratched or dinged it, would you be questioning its “durability”? I rather suspect you wouldn’t! If you don’t like the Rado, even for its scratch resistance, I don’t blame you. You’ll have to decide whether to live with yourc Omega, or not wear it.

I guess I must be an outlier because these threads are fairly common, yet I've never inspected (let alone fretted over) any stainless steel sport watch I've ever owned for dings or scratches.

Not even when I was a n00b so long ago. #genxexpectsdents #justwearit

I treat new watches like new cars - I know that they're going to get dinged eventually, so I take extra care of them at first to delay the inevitable, but once they get "christened" then I relax and treat them like any other nice possession without obsessing over them.

On mine the bracelet and the clasp scratch easily, and the bezel ding easily..but I do not worry about that. My suggestion to you is to ignore it. Don't worry about it...and if you can't ignore it, over time you will.

To be honest, before I joined this forum (and other watch forum), I always thought that I was a careless and somehow clumsy when it came to watches.

Why? I was careful with my watches, but somehow... no matter how careful I was, I banged my watches, and scratched them. Then I joined this forum.. and I read about how others also banged and scratched and dinged their watches... I then realized that hey, I'm not the only one, I'm not the only clumsy guy in the world..and suddenly I was relieved and now I know that I'm normal 😁

You will get scratches and dents all over the place from wearing the watches. It's normal. Sometimes, i'll look at my watches and be like, where the hell did that come from? It's okay though, you'll get used to it! Your clasp will be scratched to hell also if you type on the computer at work or so. I usually take mine off when i'm typing on the computer.

Wear it! You may never get used to dinging it but you'll have enjoyed the pleasure of a great watch all the while! Very few of these that most of us own will be true grail watches: rare & sought after- but someday perhaps our kids will look at it and say- my dad wore this...

I am 3 weeks into wearing my speedmaster moonwatch daily and although I had a scuff mark on the bracelet within days (probably from sleeping with the watch), travelling with it and taking it off at the hotel, I took a new look at it today and saw a minor dent (chip) and some scratches on the bracelet.
Minor damage to a valued possession isn’t fun, might help to commiserate with others in this thread...

I wear Speedmasters because they’re not supposed to be precious watches.

Occasionally, I smack a door knob with it when I’m passing by, and I wince. When no ones watching, I examine the watch. I swear to be more careful, but it eventually happens again.

Some collectibles, like wine, cannot be enjoyed without consuming the objects of worship. Others ask for slower consumption.

A watch I don’t wear is a watch I’m not enjoying. Dings and all, like me.

Quoted for the truth.

I am still not sure how I managed to smack the side of my triple date opposite the crown on a door knob. It put a 3/4" scratch in the finish. It isn't deep so it will probably buff out next time I have it serviced.

42mm P.O. Speedmaster Apollo 15 40th av and sm300 all arrived in last 18 months. All the bracelets wrapped in bubble wrap and boxed. Watches on NATO’s or leather 99% of time.
No problems with scuffs and nicks anymore.
You could buy a second hand bracelet and swap the original off to preserve it, or just not worry and when it goes to Omega for a service in the future it will come back all shiny and new again.

Honestly what can happen will happen, if you are in the U.S I would highly recommend taking advantage of the complimentary services that are offered through the OB's. Your timepiece is bound to get "wear" "character" on this journey we call life, enjoy it to its fullest because a scratch is a scratch at least you've still got the watch.

Appreciate all your responses! I am enjoying my watch, I just wonder how long I can enjoy it for before the thing no longer looks like the watch I originally purchased if these dings and nicks keep up!

I get that the watch will be 'mine' as it travels with me over the years but I also hate how easy it is to damage these watches! I looked at my other older watches and they are quite beat up, I should be a little more careful although I am generally working in front of a computer and wonder where all this damage accumulates from! I guess I should be more cautious where my wrist bangs/touches when out and about! 😲

This is why my TinTin still has all of its stickers on 😁

I might get another one preowned so I don't need to worry about scuffing it

You need to wear it!!! Contrary to all my whining and crying, I would be even more disappointed if it were just sitting there!

Several years ago I started a thread sharing the story of a Speedy I had spotted in the wild. In that thread there were several posts showing watches that had been bought and worn with many inevitable wear marks. I know collectors love 'mint condition' pieces that are LNIB, but for me I get a real joy when I see a watch someone has obviously enjoyed for a long long time (scratches, dents and all).

I took my daughter to a Laser Tag birthday party today, and I noticed the birthday girls grandfather was wearing what appeared to be an older Speedy...

Two of us participated in the largest model train show in Canada, over the week end. We exhibited about 110 operational railroad grade and railroad approved pocket and wrist watches. One fellow showed up wearing his DON Omega Speedmaster Professional. Pictures of the Omega with our pocket watch exhibition to as a backdrop. The owner bought it new, 45 years ago.

...

I'm in China with a large global team from my company. I had a chance to meet for the first time a colleague in Japan whom I'll be working quite closely with in the coming years. Soon after we started talking I noticed he was wearing a Speedmaster! I don't look specifically for Omegas but I found it interesting that I would once again see someone wearing this piece...

I've started wearing it very sparingly, maybe once a week. Slowly easing into it!

The first couple dings are the worst, after that, no biggie.
You'll get over it.
